During a discussion with a few mates the other night we all said what cars would we quite like to upgrade to next, a mate of mine said he wanted a SportKA due to the fact it is a Fast Ford and it will be a classic in a few years to come. I then chirped in saying IMO a Fast Ford is.......

Something which looks totally different to the model it is based on ( for example MK2 Focus RS is a world apart from the 2.0 Zetec.)

Tends to be tuned by Cosworth and in years to come like nearly all Fast Fords, will be collectable.

The SportKA meets none of these points IMO and i then said, you cant mention SportKA in the same breath as RS500 can you ? he said yes you can yikes

So fellow PH'ers, what is your view, SportKA, Fast Ford or not ?

Not really comparable to legendary RS500 but may be collectable in a few years.

Not really a fast Ford either ,more a "warm hatch".

Fiesta MK5 ZS is not quick but has a large fanboy following.smile

I wouldn't say fast Ford, but I would disagree with you saying it doesn't look much different from the standard Ka, it looks a lot different IMO.

Just no.

The whole idea smacks of the kinda guy who drives a 1.6 diesel hatchback and thinks a slug of boost when the turbo comes on makes it a rocket-ship..

I own a 1600cc streetka version at the moment which I bought off a hair dresser with the sole intention of selling for a profit.

It is not fast.
It is not well made.
It is a convertible.
It is a girls car.
It will sell when/if the sun comes out.

Edited. They are also very thirsty for what they are.

No. It doesn't meet the definition, because it's not fast.

(0-60 in about 10s or so?)

It is a Ford, though.

My sister had one a few years ago, great drive and felt very planted.
Engine is utterly dire, very slow and terrible on fuel for the power.
With a 1700 from the Puma or a Zetec it could have been a great little car.

Shame really, and ex also had a Street Ka, much the same but even slower. Huge boot, with the right engine again could have been a great little convertable, a bit ghey though.

A Fast Ford is a Ford which is fast.

A SportKa is not a Fast Ford.

Doesn't the SportKa having legendary handling?

Legend has it the Jaguar chassis engineers used them as their company cars as they were so enamoured with them.

A fast Ford to me is any Ford that is fast, not just special editions, so to me the Focus and Fiesta STs were fast Fords, and due even faster replacments soon. The Sportka is not really fast at all. Your mate is deluded if he thinks the values of them are going to start shooting up.

No way a fast ford.
To be honest it looks like a miniature Focus RS MK1.

No. It's not even a good Ford. I hate all variants of the Ka with a passion. My sister has a MK 1, it just feels unsafe at any speed. And I use the term "speed" very loosley.

Fast Fords are stuff like the Escort Cosworth and Focus RS.

I don't think the SportKA is a 'Fast Ford' but I would prefer to many that probably are in that club, XR3i etc
What would get entry to Fast Ford club though?

Not many Ford offerings are particularly 'Fast'. They are just a faster version of the standard. This isn't a criticism, I am not really of the view that fast=interesting or fun, just an objective view.

The Mk1 Focus RS I would say is definitely in the 'Fast Ford' bracket but, compared to other cars at similar price points, it wasn't that fast. I would still love to try one though.
How about Mondeo ST24 or 200? Again, not that fast but much better driving proposition that a MK3/4 Escort RS turbo.
