2006 Astra Starting Issue

The car generally runs great and has only covered 30k but every now and again it'll start up then after a second or two just cut out. I have to take out the key to restart.

It's been suggested this could be a key problem but aside from going to the dealer and being charged to have it looked at I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts?

Any flashing lights on the dash when it does cut out? That tends to indicate a problem with the key.
