OK, looks like they are writing her off so I could do with having a bit of knowledge to back up any arguments I might have re value.
She was a 98S 4.5 53,000 with Red Rose ECU, SS Exhaust, headlight/rear light conversion (6days old)with everything bar the boot and roof resprayed - 8month old gearbox clutch, flywheel etc. new discs, pads and tyres all round MOT till Jan 05.
I reckon £22k ish would be fair....any opinions?

Similar ones 98(S) 4.5's in the classfieds are :-

£21,250
£22,000
£21,495
£25,000 (but that's been on a while)

So you're about the ballpark figure I'd say.

If I was buying privately I wouldn't want to pay that much, but it sounds a good figure to be getting off the insurance company

I sold my 98 4.5 with slightly higher miles for about 19K recently. He wrote it off and got more than that off the ins co. So I reckon 21 - 22 is about right.

Not wanting to state the obvious, but did you declare all of these "Mods" to the insurance company?

Edited to say: Really sorry to hear about your accident, glad you're OK and I hope everything works out for you in the end.

Dont accept first offer. They should up it if you make a fuss. I made money on the three cars that had to be paid out from the insurance companies. None of the three, by the way, were due to me smashing them up. 2 stolen, and one smashed up by an old man that 'couldn't see' properly, smoking a pipe, wearing a flat cap, who decided to ram me.

Go on PH ads/Autotrader, and find the 3-5 most expensive similar age/mileage cars you can. Nice dealer ones with warranties, and all the trimmings. I remember when I wrote a car off once, I got offered a very meagre settlement. All I had to do was hand them a stack of ads for similar cars at higher prices, and they upped the offer immediately.

Hi, Thanks for all the advice guys. They have estimated I've done nearly £35k damage (Impressive eh?) and have offered me £20,500 which I reckon i'll take as I was selling soon anyway with advertising etc to add in.
I'm just gutted that such a beautiful car will never be driven again, she was a cracker.
RIP

Agreed! I did the same when I had a car totalled a while back. Plus the fact they are offering you less than I have just sold my '98 4.5 for as a private sale and the replacement value should be based on dealer price.

FWIW I reckon you shuld be at the £22k mark - go on haggle - you have nothing to loose.

This guy is pretty switched on...he knows I bought it private (I paid £19,300 10 months ago) and its also tricky as I can't bring up Red Rose ECU etc in case they get arsey, so I reckon i'm gonna take the money and run.

Take the money.

If they start digging and find stuff that they didn't know about they're well within their to give you nowt.

It seems like you done OK (financially) out of the ordeal.

Good luck.
