Can anyone suggest any? Our ST220 just had a puncture, sitting on the spare at the moment and need to get it sorted asap.

It had 4 new Conti SC 2's fitted when we got it in February so if I can get another SC 2 I will just do the one, but according to reviews they don't wear very well.

Can any suggest any tyres that last fairly well? I don't mind getting two for now if the tyre is decent and not a fortune.

The SC2 is a decent tyre, just buy another one? Makes no sense to suddenly mismatch your tyres because you think maybe perhaps they may not wear well. It's an ST220, performance is surely a more important thing than simple wear or you'd have bought a TDCi.

I know it sounds backwards but I was mainly asking in case I couldn't get one quick enough and had to settle for something else.

I'm off out in a bit to price a few places off against each other.

From what I have read though people are saying they wear really poorly and if they were going to wear out within 6 months (the remaining 3 I mean) then I might aswell do the rear two now and the fronts next month.

Wanli or Goodride.

These will last ages.

They're horrible and they'll probably try to kill you, but they are hardwearing.

Fair enough... Ditchfinders it is.... or not! I get the point, performance tyres are slightly softer and won't last quite as long. Cheers guys smile

There is normally a correlation between how long a tyre lasts and how much grip it provides. The likes of Continental and Michelin are able to produce tyres with higher grip levels with good wear but they tend to be more expensive.

Weight (of the car) and tyre pressure are also contributing factors. I'd expect you to get 20k out of a tyre on a Mondeo, maybe a little less on the front but alot more on the back. Pulling hard away from junctions and hard braking also has an affect.

Michelins, but they go out of shape before they wear out, so you just end up with a lumpy ride and horrible cabin noise.

The P6000s that my Merc came with seem to be lasting fairly well, although they do have problems putting the power down out of corners.

I can strongly recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport 3, which is a superb tyre and is rated as being very long lasting too. They're not cheap but totally worth it.

Cheers for the responses all. The tyre size is 225/40/18 but I've found a SC2 for Monday fitted at £122 so can't grumble.

Another quick point, how long can it sit on the spare wheel? It won't move until Monday morning so it's just on the drive.

Could you not just get the punctured tyre repaired?
Its normally possible as long as the puncture isn't on or too close to the side wall.

Inner side wall is split around at least half the tyre. I checked and there were no components fouling the wheel so not sure what has happened.

Suprised to see so much love for the PS3, despite its name it isn't a high performance tyre and it isn't the real replacement for the PS2. It seems they replaced the PS2 with the Pilot Super Sport and the PS3 is the Pilot Exalto replacement.

Michelin without a doubt. Expensive but good value. Maniac946 post above is utter cobblers in my experience.

Agreed.

I had Bridgestone Potenza on my work van and they got very noisy when they where getting low.

The first time it happened, i thought i had a rear wheel bering gone.
