I'll probably head over there tomorrow or Monday and stay overnight, found this route via a cycling website and it includes some of the big passes. Should I do this or modify it and do something similar/different?

The Keswick - Buttermere section is well worth doing

And if you have time the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is quite fun.

Cheers fella, might check out that rail journey. Sounds good, going to get up early(ish) tomorrow, head over and do that rail journey before setting up camp somewhere, I'll do a random drive around the lakes later that day and then on Tuesday morning do the route I have set before heading home.

I try and do a Christmas day drive around the lakes every year, if I am home,
This will be starting in earnest once I'm out the army in autumn smile

Some pics from my little sojourn

Just getting there

Setting up camp

Hardknott from the bottom

Hardknott looking back from 3/4 of the way up

Hardknott to Wynrose from the top

On the way back to camp from the two passes above

Next day Kirkstone pass (I hit this with very few other cars around and it was unreal fun, I had to keep going back up and down it)

Buttermere to Keswick route (I forget the name of the pass but it was around that area)

Going back home again

I did Hardknott, Wynrose, Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands and Whinlatter passes, only managed a few photo's from the drive but most of the time I was too busy driving. I also didn't do the route above but did follow it on large parts of my drive. I reckon doing the full route would be great fun.

I run down that pass (butter mere to Keswick) when I am home. On the other side of it as a deceptively long and steep hill going to butter mere. That's the final 4 miles of a fell marathon back to my car, lol.
