Best hot hatches to look at?
Discussion
Hey guys
I am looking into a new car this time next year and am starting my research early to make sure i dont mess up!
I will be 22 with 2 year ncb (started driving a bit late)
I currently have a 1.0 corsa d which is fine for a bit as insurance 1st year was 2200
I have driven an RS clio 200 and thought it was great if not a little to poor on the interior for me, also drive a VXR nurburg which was a pretty good all rounder though i preferred the clios handling, i did like the torque from the turbo on the vxr.
I wanted to know what else I should look at keeping in mind insurance costs for a 22 year old. my ideal car would be an imprezza due to turbo and 4wd but they will be insane to run and insure so dont think i can afford that just yet!

1. Are you wanting to buy a car so your mates can look at it?
2. Budget.
3. Requirements.
4. Mileage per year.
This list is not exhaustive.
i dont get what you mean by the first question? i would like a car considered cool though not like a Suzuki swift or something 2. Budget.
3. Requirements.
4. Mileage per year.

Budget im not sure of entirely, depends on if i finance or buy outright, id probably like to finance and then id say under 20k
requirements are interior quality and to an extent economy if i was doing motor way driving.
Mileage id say around 10k
Also, not a golf. hate them.
Maybe a Mk6 Fiesta?
I drive a 1.4 duratec model and it's a lot of fun, great cornering and fast enough, but you never feel out of control. Very economical too. It's my first car and insurance with no NCB was £1600. Sure you could afford the insurance on a Zetec S or similar. Very fun cars and easy to maintain/repair.

Civic Type R EK3?
I know your only 22, but I had one when I was 18 with 1 years ncb. Granted it was a traders policy, but still may be worth a shot?
they look quite old? Im looking for something pretty new (looked at the newest civic type r) mainly due to me not wanting to pay for lots of maintenance etcI know your only 22, but I had one when I was 18 with 1 years ncb. Granted it was a traders policy, but still may be worth a shot?

not a massive fan of the minis styling really extrior and interior.
Also to the post above, the ford fiesta isnt a hot hatch unless its the st right? I was looking at a focus ST (the new one) since it seems quite cool
Have you driven one? I sell them and the amount of guys that say it is for their mrs then have a drive themselves and realise they will actually be driving it most of the time. A JCW in eclipse grey looks lovely imo. Also to the post above, the ford fiesta isnt a hot hatch unless its the st right? I was looking at a focus ST (the new one) since it seems quite cool

not interested in peoples opinions on where the money comes from, my choice.
Your choice, quite right.I just wouldn't like to see an inexperienced driver spend 20 grand on a rapidly depreciating asset, only to stuff it in a wall. There's a reason insurance is expensive for inexperienced drivers, you should listen to your insurers.

Meant to say EK9. Sorry.Anyway yes, they are getting pretty long in the tooth right now, but most are cherished and finding a mint one wouldn't be hard. As for maintenance, all I had to do to mine over 1 years and 35k miles (I was young!
) was general servicing, 1 valve adjustment and front pads. Hardly back breaking work!
It depends on whether you prefer driving or posing. I've seen EK9's and DC2's show up much more expensive metal in the twistys!

yea, my very first car is financed as well anyway and its worked out really well for me, admittedly my parents offered some money toward it but it has allowed me to get a decent safe car to use for a few years than the death traps most kids get as a first car, its also taught me to drive more carefully due to it being expensive and me paying for it monthly, as far as I see it, as long as you can pay the monthly payments its fine, cars arent bought as assets to hold value. Though i would consider financing a year older car just to not take the 30% hit initially and still have a warranty, im a little worried about buying a car older than the warranty period as i dont like surprise bills!

I am a bit of a sucker for poser cars, really like the VXR nurburg but just wanted to see whats better, i just want a car that looks nice as well as it goes nicely, not that im going to go to car meets of mc donalds car parks, just when i have to look at it i want to like how it looks. Whats special about the vtec civic engines? I have been looking at thew newest body civic r before they were banned see they are 200 bhp non turbos, what separates them from say, a RS200 clioAnyway yes, they are getting pretty long in the tooth right now, but most are cherished and finding a mint one wouldn't be hard.
