Is there ever any need to lube shock pistons? I'm currently cleaning-up a set of adjustable shocks that are a few years old dusty/dirty and the pistons seem a bit 'dry'... no film of oil or lube that I can detect. That said, the shocks seem fine and not sticking at all.

Any benefit to using a bit of light machine oil on the pistons, or better to leave well alone?

Best to leave them, oil can make dirt and grit stick to them so they are left as they are.

The piston is inside, and surrounded by a whole load of oil....
