yeah that's tracking. Camber isn't adjustable AFAIK

V8S is adjustable, so would an S3 be as well?

Surface & Design did mine. I don't know how it's done but here's the settings.

One way to adjust the rear camber is to put washers on the bolts securing the bearing carrier to the trailing arm, i.e. you put the washers in the joint between the bearing carrier and the arm. So to increase negative camber, you put a washer on each of the lower two bolts.

I suspect it was checked, not adjusted scratchchin

"One way to adjust the rear camber is to put washers on the bolts securing the bearing carrier to the trailing arm"

Guess that would do it but can't see it being the "approved" method

I remember them saying they had reset the rear suspension to factory settings because a previous owner had adjusted them to make the handling “sharper”. Which might have been a contributory factor to how it ended up in S&D in the first place. Nothing to do with my right foot obviously. laugh
Whether were to toe-in, camber or both, or how it was done, I really don’t know.

Approved? Do you guys have forms in triplicate for everything?! Well at least it's a useful suggestion of a method I have used myself! Certainly using more than say 1mm washer thickness might be a practical limit. Using a reasonably ductile washer material will allow the slight misalignment angle(1° ish) to bed down. My V8S has done enough track days and all my non-approved parts have thus far not caused any catastrophic failure.

Another way (which I have not tried) might be to put vertical slots in the holes where the toe-adjuster bolts go through at the inboard pivot end of the arm. Then you can move the end of the arm up/down a little to adjust the camber.

Who shall we apply to for approval on that one?!

Thus far !biggrin

My "approved" comment was light hearted (perhaps I should have used a smiley), if it works for you are you're satisfied it's good 'un safe that's fine. However, had TVR ever written a full Workshop Manual I doubt that would have been included wink

That's OK, I knew it was light hearted. It's hard to do tone of voice and cheeky smirk on the interweb! This camber adjusting technique is commonly used for fine adjustments on cars with similar configurations. As long as you don't put stupidly thick washers in, it will be fine.

I still think we need to get away from this idea of "standard" and "approved" when it comes to TVR. There was very little of that ever coming out of the factory. Hence the copious use of whatever self-tappers they had to hand on the day.

I suppose my piece of TVR letter headed paper titled TVR suspension geometry check list models S3 and S3C... with words 'Rear camber not adjustable. check and report to development if outside tolerance' means that there was very little of if any biggrin standards and approving going on.

Crikey-bobs!!! But I guess they had to put up some sort of pretence!

Since you are a known refurbisher of trailing arms, what is your technical take on the subject? (whether approved or not!)

ETA, I guess all those standards and approvals being followed explains why my S3C had the front wishbone pickups welded on all askew!!laugh

I would rather agree with a no one on this, having never had to add washers to bring an 'S' within tolerance.

"Hi any body got any info on adjusting rear camber angles cheers"

Was there a reason for asking, is there a problem with the rear camber ????

The rear camber on my V8S is adjustable. If you took the washers out it would adjust it back to standard. Does that count?

biggrin

Joking aside, given that it's not adjustable the only way for it to be significantly out of spec is that something has bent. In that case I'd much rather find the root cause rather than hide the symptoms.

Just a thought, (perhaps Adrian is best placed to advise?), I recently fitted a trailing arm restored by Adrian (I have yet to post before and after pics and my appreciation of the work done) and the car is due to go for a 4 wheel alignment as soon as I can find the time. This specialist can also, I believe, check the camber as well. I would expect the S1 to be different in some way to the V8 spec. Does anybody know what the 'factory' spec figures are. If mine are OK I can thenbiggrin, if not there will be a lot of cry and possibly a little of censored
