What are Renault Sport Clio's like?
Discussion
I am being forced to admit that my year old MX5 is no longer practical.
Thinking about keeping the Mazda CX7 for the next few years as it has been ours from new, fits the bill of weekend dog and load lugger to our Scottish holiday home, decent performance, they don'tmake them any more and am fond of it.
The MX 5 was bought new last year as the daily commute car and something fun with a soft top to replace the MGF and TF which were cluttering the drive.
But we have a dog now, so any trip the two of us make that involves the dog and the MX5 isn't much fun for anyone.
So what about replacing it with a Clio cup?
I have always love fast small cars, though I have never owned one. Back when she met me my wife had a Puma which she loved.
A fast hatch back for commuiting but with a back seat for the dog if we fancy taking a littlr fast car up to Galloway for some hooning.
So what are Clio Sport 200 BHP models like? Either new or nearly new would be what I am after.
Also, any other suggestions. I really don't like Fiat 500s and there something about Minis that I just don't get.

The Clio 200 is an excellent little car. It's not really that quick in a straight line and you have to work hard to get the best out of the engine, but it's a really good laugh to drive. The short gearing means It's not particularly great on fuel and can be tiring on the motorway. For road use only, I probably wouldn't bother with the Cup pack, although not having it may make it difficult to sell when the time comes! I'd also give the Corsa Nürburgring a look too - they're meant to be excellent. Bear in mind there's also a new Fiesta ST due very shortly.

Clio's like most french cars are unreliable tat, much loved by some twunts on this site who are biased owners that dont know what quality is.
It seems that you comb every thread on this site for references to Renaults so you can shovel s
t on them. Give it a rest.
head too.I only have experience of the 200 with the cup pack; probably one of the most fun cars on an A or B road you can get - they're great. I wish the interior was better, but you don't notice it when you're about to go round a corner 10mph faster than the exotica you're chasing down. If you're used to MX5 pace they won't feel that slow in a straight line either. Astra VXRs are longer legged but have a poorer ride, and incomparable handling, the clio is in a different league in that respect.

head too.Fantastic - so I hear from every major road test/friend, infact... I would probably have one If it weren't for the reliability 'gamble'. Renault hating man above may look a twunt but does he have a point?
I owned a Scenic once and it was an absolute frenchfarce, sworn never to return to the marque I find myself constantly taunted and ever more convinced by them, they are a difficult car to ignore within their market, no questions there

RS 200?
Foooking Excellent.
That is all.
Buy one.
Oh and just incase I'm accused of being a fanboy, at last I'm smoking another one of my profile picture cars( with no roof and a V10 behind me though) and I still sometimes wish I had an RS 200. The difference between a hammer and a scalpel, I guess?
You won't regret it.

I think the clio for me is more a hoon/weekend car. I'd hate to use the williams daily, even though the bucket armchairs it has are might comfy, i prefer having a nobody cars run around, save its specialness(!) for the weekend.
Go with some of the fat wollowey tat that they renault naysayers are pushing fowards, as to be fair the only thing some of their sugestions are good for is a daily driver anyhow.
