Thinking of buying an XF 5.0 v8 (not xfr). Am I mad?

Don't do enough miles to buy a diesel.
Need to have kids seat in the back, so not an XK
Don't want the hard ride, or extra expense, of the XFR.
So, its got to be a normally aspitated 5.0 V8 (Portfolio). Would be lovely. MPG doesnt worry me too much on 5k miles a year. Just hope it doesnt end up being worthless in 3 years time.
What do you all think?

It's exactly the car that my wife has in mind for next year, she does around 8K a year and it would be a worthy replacement for her 2007 S-type V8, except the 5.0 has an extra 85hp and is more efficient. 1- 2 year old ones seem to be going for £25-£28K, very good value.

You maybe surprised by the ride of the XFR. With the adaptive dynamics it really is superb compared to the M5.
It terms of price £28k would get you in an XFR with many options. The standard XFR is specked to the portfolio standard, and many have additional options.
The XFR will also hold its value better.
It's worthing trying them both. Especially as they are in a similar price bracket.

Not sure on your budget, but I too would go for an XFR, there is not point in buying an XF with a normal V8 unless it's extremely cheap. As has been alluded to, the spec on the XFR is much higher and the most important thing is the regular XF seats are awful, the 'R sports seats are superb and make buying an XFR over an XF the way to go.
The economy will be the same, depreciation on a similar priced XFR will be much better than a n/a V8 XF, plus it is one heck of an awesome car.

Thanks all - I will try a XFR, but its about £41k for a one year old XFR and only £29k for a one year old plain v8. So quite a difference between the two.No big differences between the facelifted XFR. Go for a 2 to 3year old, the jag network has many with less than 30k miles and more options than you can imagine.
£28k all day long for a approved jaguar used XFR portfolio spec. With 3 or 4 good options on top.
