Hmm.........i was stood quite close to it. It didn't look like a replica or kit.
And the area where it is located is really expensive..
I'm not saying it is a replica, but there have been some very expensive speedster type replicas made over the years. There's just something about that does seem to sit right, but I'm in no way claiming any expertise And the area where it is located is really expensive..

It has been under cover for at least two years, and uncovered for two days.
The area is mostly rental with a high turnover of people. I get the feeling the owner is absent somewhere.
Fascinating to know the history, if it is in the same situation tomorrow i may make some enquiries. It looks like it could belong to one of four properties.

Given the value of a real one, I suspect in that case it's a replica...The area is mostly rental with a high turnover of people. I get the feeling the owner is absent somewhere.

Something makes me think it might be a Beetle-based kit?

You wont be able to tell they are kits fabulous things.
If it's an original or not, and it's been sat sweating under that cover for 2 years doing nothing, then the owner doesn't deserve to own it. Those covers are a double edged sword, they trap moisture coming up from underneath the car. Long term they can irrevocably damage the paint too. The car would probably be better off without the cover.
