Almost depressing really. I was thinking about the effect of this forum on my driving and reliase that i now
NEVER exceed a 30 or 40 limit. I only did 'by a bit' before, but Id be so embarassed at having to admit being done in a 30 that I compeltely stick to the limit!
And this is a speeding forum! Woe is me

same here... stick to 30-40 limits (which annoys the 45mph numpties) and drive after the conditions once I pass the NSL signs
I consider myself to have been educated by the PH massive.
I'm the same..
I feel that in most situations it's fair to have a 30-40 limit, but if I get cop'd in an NSL zone, it's fair game.. I drive accordingly to the conditions and at a speed I feel safe..

I dont understand. You dont exceed the 30 limit? Why ever not?
What on earth makes you think that the powers that be have even the slightest frikkin idea what it is theyre doing? What makes you think THEY know better than you?
Most likely the w*nker that put up the 30 limits didnt/dosent even drive as its "Un pc" and a "cause of social exclusion"....
Would you do 30 on a motorway if they made it law?
Seems theyve "re-educated" some people on here, changed their behaviour, just as they wished, and now theyre brainwashed into thinking "20 is plenty" and all that bollox.
Maybe Ted should change the site name to "Pistonheads, Signs Matter".....
:shakes head in disbelief:
I give up.

Never exceed the 30 limit? You've not visited rural Oxfordshire then. Half the county is a 30 limit now.
Also, as you enter a 30 limit from a derestricted zone are you doing 30mph? Or do you drift down to 30mph? Just asking ...
I stick to 30 in town in a 30 limit, under 35 in other 30 limits. Unless they're in the middle of nowhere with not a Tallivan nor a house nor human to be seen, then I tend to be a bit quicker

Deltaf, Grasshopper, yahoo time.
Until 30 and 40 limits are abused as speed cams have been, I'm with this argument. And at least where I live, they appear to be pretty sensible. That is I don't always like them, but I can see why they're there.
I hate them, but another saying "live to fight another day" springs to mind.
Why get a ticket in a 30 or 40 that you can avoid, when there are still many places you can go mental? and I mean *proper* mental, of the 3 digit variety. Well, unless it's a plate-off day.. but we won't talk about that here.
Stay safe. And oi, Deltaf, yahooooooooooo?

I'm pretty calm in 30 and 40 limits too, most of the time, these limits are mostly sensible in Shropshire. This wouldn't be the case if I lived in somewhere like Oxfordshire though where they are clearly taking the pi55.
Like others, after the GLF board I drive to the conditions which is generally up to 85 in a 60 and 80-90 on a d/c or motorway.

it isnt that I now obey these limits because I have a new found respect for law and order or the policy making retards who set the rules - its simply being part of much wider reaching discussions than Id normally be privvy too. Lots of threads whre Ive disagreed with people have still made me think about what they've said. Some of the harsher/clearer posts by Gone (and the rest) also make you think - he may be sometimes apparently just repeating the laws as standard, but its always backed up by real examples of what can (and does) go wrong - plus there are posts every single day which help to reiterate the 'what if' part of driving.
but the main thing is that in general I have little problem with set 30 limits (there will always be some)....and most people on here have little problem with them. I think I just couldnt bring myself to say Id managed to get done for, say, 40 in a 30....obviously an ego thing.
I have to ask though DeltaF...who is the 'they' that have done the re-educating? It has to be all the other drivers...not a shadowy government conspiracy....
motorway speeds....well I did North Leeds to South of Luton in just over 2 hours last week...so Im guessing I still reserve the right to drive however I see fit sometimes....

The "they" i am referring to are the "powers that be" and "the partnerships".
Their stated aims are to influence driver behaviour in a way that THEY determine.
Quite whether or not the influence is in the direction they want is another matter altogether, it hasnt for example worked on me. I just drive as i see fit for the conditions, and the speed signs and stealth scams afflict and affect me not in the slightest.
They need a more convincing gameplan to change my behaviour in the way they desire, as at the moment, its gone entirely the opposite way....but then again, i am an awkward bastard!

Deltaf - I get the impression that you 'do as you see fit' just because you disagree with their methods or politics.
What if sometimes 'they' are right? You give the strong impression that you'd defy them anyway and
the consequences
What if you did actually kill someone? No really I mean it, a real human being. I know someone who did. It hasn't stopped me loving going fast, but watching how it completely wrecked not only the lives of the bereaved, but also of the driver and his family, it does give me a different perspective on whether it's worth it in urban areas. Roads are busier now, and the compensation culture has made so many people less respectful of traffic. What are you trying to prove Deltaf? Are you sure it's proveable?

Well, I just can't believe some people here that say they stick to the 30 and 40MPH limits.
Are you trying to say that even at 4am in the morning with not a soul in sight, that you would still stick to the 30MPH limit.
Please stop pulling the wool over my eyes
I am of the opinion that it's always best to do slightly over the limit as it attracts less attention.
Whenever I get stuck behind someone doing 30MPH (which normally means 28MPH according to my Road Angel), my immediate thought is that they have either been drinking, or have no insurance, licence, or MOT.
Call me cynical

If you drive 2kph UNDER the limit here in Germany at night and the BiGs are folowing it's an automatic "pull" as this is one of the biggest give-aways that you've been drinking... I have the local traffic nest anbout 880m up the road and do know a few.
50kph limit drive at 55, 60 drive at 67...etc
I actually find it fun sticking to the *in town* limits. being a BMW driver seems to make everyone hate you anyway, combined with the fact my car has a 3.0ltr lump seems to annoy people even more when i drive at or under the limit.
strange thing is the people it annoys most are the school-run (or is it daycare during the summer?) 4*4 driving mums !!!
only this morning i had some woman in a jap 4*4 tailgating me in a 30. she then overtook me at first chance she got, i had to brake to let her back in as she was about to hit a traffic island and hae misjudged how much overtaking power her 4*4 actually had. kept calm let her in. the fact she was leaning into the rear passenger compartment at the time to hand the scrote kid a drink didnt help either.

I follow this code too, unless theres a suspicious looking car behind me, in which case i stick to the limits. I do tend to TRY and keep my speeding within 3 points territory but on the bike it tends to stray into 'instant ban' territory far too easily - 90mph in NSL - nothing dangeous there, on a bike, if conditions and circumstances allow, but id lose my license if caught.
Most 30 and 40 limits I have ever experienced are way too low.
However, such limits may be applicable on one or two bends / short stretches of road - say 4% of the entire road length.
So, as I do in my everyday life, I use my common sense and do not rely on some penpusher, who probably has no idea about the reality of a situation, to tell me what speed to drive at irrespective of where I am on a particular part of a road.
Do those of you who say they obey any 30 or 40 limit without thinking for yourself, really think you are somehow safer irrespective of whether it's raining, you're near the brow of a hill, a straight piece of road, side turnings, cloud, sun, shadow etc etc?
Do you trundle along at 30 on a straight piece of road with a queue behind you just because you've been told to do so?
I find it hard to believe that you ever thought otherwise; I wonder whether or not your "amazing" conversion is somehow staged.
Are you unable to use your own judgement on the road - what about the other aspects of your everyday life?
