I don't know a lot about these cars but that sounds like a wheel-speed sensor (abs sensor) to me. Shouldn't be expensive (unless Mini charge an arm and a leg for the sensors).
Thanks, thats what I am hoping. May try a local Indie who can plug it in for at least half the price of mini and see what faults it drags up.MX-5 Lazza said:
Just had a quick look on ebay - sensors are cheap on there so if they can identify the faulty sensor then it would probably be cheapest and pretty easy to change it yourself.
Thanks, car is R56 model, seem to be only a few used ones showing on flea bay. Just checked Eur0 Car Parts and they are showing £56 for front & £39 for rear so need to try and find out if the fault is a duff abs sensor and if front or rear.Edited by NorthEast on Monday 18th June 14:05
Just an update, local Indy plugged it in and reset/cleared? error codes for rear left ABS senser. Was Ok for about 3 weeks and fault returned. The senser for R56 models onwards seems to be only a Mini dealer supply at the moment(£100+ my Indi said). Found a new one on E bay £30 and fitted it yesterday, looking ok at the moment.

Spoke to soon, back to itermittant faults showing again
, seems abs pump faults are common!!!. Its due its MOT this month so have to get it sorted.Car went into mini dealer, diagnosed Dynamic Stability Module failure. All in, abt £1,200 to repair.
The car had just turned five years old, low milage (10,000 miles), correctly serviced including an additional brake fluid change.
Dealer initally wanted to repair it, and then try Mini afterwards for a goodwill payment as the car was over 4 year old. I decided to wait to see if a goodwill offer from Mini appeared before starting repair, and if not forthcoming look at other option for repair.
Mini fortuantly agreed to coughed up a substancial part of the repair costs leaving me with abt. £280 to pay including the initial diagnostic check, so reasonable happy with the outcome.

BMW do a repair kit for this and fitted and coded at an Indy is under 600 iirc
Don't know if the speedo played up on yours, but it can with the other faults. It is also common on 1 series and 3 series, and the repair kit differs in that some are the hydro bodies and some are the module.
Best get it done with gen parts so at least you get a national parts support for the wty period, and know it works.
