Right. I think it's time to change car, however I am stuck with what to get. I currently have a 2001 CLK Coupe 2.3K.

I am in no real hurry to upgrade, but do not want to rush.

The cars I'm keen on:

Mercedes CL500 - Post Facelift - Are they as bad as people make out. It's a Merc I know the engine and box are very good on them however I am told they have troublesome electrics and the ABC Pumps / shocks always fail. However they are lots of car for very little money. They still however maintain the supercar running costs.

The other option is something like a CLK 320 or 500 W209 - however I have just come from a CLK and worry it'll feel too familiar...

I would like a CLS350/500 however they are a little out of my price reach for the moment.

I'm not looking for a keeper so I could own it for a year or two and then change to something more sensible. I need to look further into insurance quotes and go from there.

Other cars I have thought about getting are:

Mazda RX8 231

Alfa Romeo as I have yet to drive one (need to look into this much more) looking at the coupe / 4 door cars in general no hatches or 3 door cars.

BMW X5

BMW 330 Convertable (e46)

BMW Z4

I know this is all over the place. One being a CL then a Z4 but at the moment I am very stuck.

8-10 miles per year
London
25 years old
Short 10 mile journey to work

Budget is max of 8,000

No MX5's or TVRs etc hopefully this is different from the usual what car.

Maybe not to everyone's taste but I was away to look at an Audi RS6 and an M3 in a garage and stumbled across this:

http://www.caldermotor.co.uk/used-cars/jaguar-s-ty...

Couldn't believe the figures, they'd completely flown below my radar which is unusual for a super-saloon.

On the test drive it felt pretty damn impressive.

Just to add. Won't be able to insure any AMGs or M or S/RS cars also not interested in anything from VAG.

The Jag sounds good but for some reason I prefer the X Type however I feel them Jags feel somewhat "Ford" like or maybe it's just me. XF-R and C63 on day. Or CLS55

300bhp/ton

erm that seems like all over the show. Many good cars, but I think you need to narrow down either the type of vehicle you want, or at least create a short list. Anybody posting will have no basis apart from their own personal bias on what is going to be best for you.

And really the only person saying what you like - is YOU!

Just to keep you on the Jag search I'm going from a 96 1.8 Celica with 114bhp to the 400bhp S-Type R and my insurance is going to rocket up by £126! Thought the quote would be a lot more and probably put me off buying it but the complete opposite happened!!

S-Types share a platform with a Lincoln and the 4.2 v8 is a Jag engine but there are bound to be a few parts out the Ford part bin!

Plenty of other ones in the range with the 4.2 and a 'charger so well worth a look around IMO.

Currently stuck between a E46 Coupe / Convertable, CLK, and CL500.

Still all over the show.

Is a 208 to 209 pointless?

Help!
