Want to change mounts as mine are getting a bit battered... what's the current thinking on good replacements? Anyone had any experience of the SC Power ones?

I fitted SC retainers with my engine mounts, I too found a nice smell coming from the engine, first thoughts the wiring loom was burning out, later found that the top poly cone had started to melt, I wrapped some heat reflecting material round the mounts fixed it with some garden wire, ‘jobs a good one’ no more smells..

Will post some pics of my sc power mounts over the weekend.

Buy somthing else they lasted less than 500 miles.

They melted letting the engine drop.

They must be a rubbish copy.
My originals were replaced at 70K with a set from Clever Trevor and never had aproblem.

Not knocking SC's ones just adding my 2pence worth.

Str8 Six recommend the Racetech version - better than the standard OE mount. I have heard some bad feedback regarding the SC mounts from several sources.

I fitted race tech direct "uprated" ones a couple of months back as mine had sagged. No idea how or if they are uprated but they seemed good quality and fitted ok, only time will tell how long they last.

Out of interest what type of issues do you get when the mounts are worn?

I have just retuned from Spa this weekend & over loose surfaces i get a metallic vibration noise i assumed was my drop links but could be my mounts which the rubber is looking worn.

1st sign of sagging mounts is tge pre-cat area of the ex manifolds tting the chassis directly underneath.

^^^^This is what happened to mine, drivers side sagged and manifold was sat on the chassis rail

My old one was in 2 halves when it was removed, but my first sign was the power steering pump pulley going through the swirl pot

what do they do and will they fit the T car chassis do you know....??

They look like extra support for the mount - do they affect the amount of heat / vibration passed from the car to the mount and vice versa?

Mine sheared the rubber off the metal, dropped the engine on one side, the torque reaction caused the belt pulley to saw clean through the swirl pot inlet pipe, lost all my coolant, head gasket went and a liner dropped into the crank. Oh, and the air intake had pulled off the filter (my AFM wasn't bolted down) so the engine had been hoovering up the road, some of the debris smashed a piston skirt and bent a valve.

Does that help?

£6000 rebuild or new engine mounts? Mmmm scratchchin

The restraints keep the engine a bit more steady and add life to the engine mounts..

There`s more movement on these engines due to the standard of tune and higher lift cams ..
