DVLA Van "This Vehicle Stops Suddenly"

Holy thread revival after a google search for "This vehicle Stops Suddenly" search.
Just seen one of these vans stop suddenly outside my premises with the driver obviously "clocking" all my cars on my off road hardstanding. Most have current Tax Discs showing anyway. A camera at each corner of the van roof. Plain white van and no other clues as to which Government agency is involved apart from that "This Vehicle Stops Suddenly" signs on the rear doors.
Since I retired a few years ago, I have seen both marked and unmarked DVLA vans up and down our cul-de-sac several times. Maybe they are far more frequent than my observations show as no doubt they survey when I'm not there to see.
Certainly some nice little earner in some respects although any "stats" available supporting this I would view with suspicion Government Agency efficiency being what it is. Been there seen that. Taxpayer resources being used efficiently? Yeah right.
Meantime, huge savings cutting the number of Police Patrol cars because those we entrust to this Nation's well being spend a fortune of our money on "Speed Cameras". Expensive Cameras including dummies which do precious little to address really bad driving which is now all too frequent on our roads. Nowhere near as effective as Police Patrol cars at apprehending bad divers as opposed to folks exceeding often silly speed limits in arbitrary areas. Doubt they can understand the difference but, Government boxes get ticked so all's well ... init.
Those Police, Camera Action TV programmes show how little resources are effectively deployed to address the real criminal elements and bad driving on our roads which I and noi doubt you see almost daily. I do not blame the Police although from my own observations, some officers in my experience are an expensive waste of money and resources. Good at ticking boxes though.
A Nation excelling in getting far too many things quite simply wrong.

You Sir are very astute.Tell you why. There's a nasty piece of work ( NPOW ) who lives in our street who has claimed invalidity benefit whilst still driving his cars and Motor Cycles. That could mean he does not actually have to pay for a Tax Disc on his cars etc.
His immediate neighbour whilst working away abroad, has his Ford People Carrier clamped a few days after the Disc had expired. It was stranded with a dead locked auto-gearbox half in the road and half on the hard standing. His little lady had little time or opportunity chance of sorting the MoT with an undrivable dead car so not able to renew the Disc.
Exchanging a few pleasant words with Mr NPOW discussing the situation of the stranded now clamped vehicle, I casually mentioned that I suspect some "s
tty" neighbour had shopped him to the DVLA. NPOW's immediate reaction and responses told me all I needed to know. I shall keep and eye on his vehicles' Tax Discs but if he gets them for free ... 
When the neighbour returned from abroad, I saw the Ford being taken away on a flatbed. Owner told me he was not going to have the car repaired so good riddance to the undrivable thing. I wonder if the DVLA or unlike the Swansea outfit, the surprisingly efficient ENFORCEMENT AGENCY

Hmm, an idea - if you have vehicles stored off the public road but within camera view that you don't want "trawled" on their database (regardless of their legality) then a little number-plate cover would do the trick 
Good idea... mustn't let those so and sos and Mr. Excrement grind us down although they are very efficient at creating aggro and hardship all with the best of intentions and at some cost. ... Three other family members living at this address all have cars both in use or on SORN. All quite legally.

A family member suffered a broken nose at knifepoint during a botched attempt at robbery. Images on several nearby CCTVs... Nothing done by the Police who found reasons not to proceed but, are still able to tick boxes to show crime figures are down ... well reported crime figures that is. I gave up reporting crime incidents ages ago and I am far from alone. Waste of time and space.
Disturbed a thief by accident when checking noises at next door neighbour's property. He legged it.
Few days later whilst we were both away, on my return next door had been entered and stuff stolen. There were crow bar marks on the front door but it would have needed a Bulldozer to enter that way as the door was strongly reinforced.
Speaking to the Crime Scene Officer ( SOC ) who attended, he was convinced they entered through front door and exited quickly via breaking the large glass window at the other side of the house. No way Sherlock on fifty K a year! The large pieces of glass had all been very carefully removed and laid onto the grass with none over lapping so as to eliminate any loud noises. That's how entry was gained but pro-SOC Officer was determined not see it that way. Clueless! Still, bet he ticked a few boxes and a job well done whilst finding other ways to boost that final salary! You couldn't make it up!

I have a "free" (Disabled) VED Disc on ONE of the family's three cars, but then I am able-bodied while my wife is tetraplegic.How can this "free Tax Disc" thing happen even if the circumstances are genuine?? (Rhetorical
)This thread makes me glad I am lucky enough NOT to be eligible to use a Blue Badge
(from earlier experiences with an Orange badge [which dates these experiences] - narrow minds vs. wide mouths, etc 
) - though I could legitimately apply for one and use it on occasion (and face the abuse from passers-by
