Any Warwickshire Trafpols here?
Discussion
I was just wondering if anyone had a better than a guess idea what the cut off tolerance would be for an Offcier using a laser gun on a bridge around J12 of the M40?
I was doing approx 85mph.
The full story:
A clear northbound M40, no rush, just cruising from A to B. I admit I normally drive at 80mph on a ideal day.
Sun blazing, light traffic, I was doing about 85mph, middle lane as the lorries in the inside lane were all that needed to be passed on this occassion. Before I spotted the Police ML on the bridge ahead my Road Angel's Laser alert went into full alarm.
I hit the brakes and made a swift sideways manouver into the inside lane (still nothing immediately in front of me unfortunatly) as I ammended my speed to just under 70mph.
The instant the Road Angel went off my foot was hard on the brakes, but the alert carried on way after I had changed lane and was travelling below the speed limit, as if the Officer was still tracking me (or does the RA sound for longer than the laser hits it?)
As I passed under the bridge the Officer seemed to have stopped playing with his gun and was putting it on the passender seat of the ML - is this a sign that he was getting a print out or something from another bit of kit in the car??
Will the impact of me changing my speed by warning of seeing the officer be enough for him or do you think my highest recorded speed will be all that matters?
The thought of getting any points from such an innocent journey really makes me mad.
Any tit bits of info to ease (or not) my mind, please share!!

Depends on what he was actually using..
If it was something like a Pro Laser II, which he probably was, he would have been down the sliproad and after you if he wanted to.
He was probably fishing and decided to 'call it a day' just as you were passing underneath...
Don't panic mate..

I'm trying the don't panic advice, but............
I know I was speeding and I know he lasered me, so do you think 85mph wasn't enough to concern him on this occasion?
I thought laser guns took a photo these days so you got a nasty letter in the post?
Junction 12 of the M40 is a well known spot for the BiB to hangout.
Northbound they sit on the bridge, which is difficult to see when you come round the corner, and so is a good place to make some cash.
Southbound they like to sit just past the J12 sliproad and catch you coming down that nice hill which is a great temptation to put your foot down.
Just like to add, that I have never been caught myself, but drive this road every day, and think they are only interested if doing well over 90mph. So hopefully you should be ok.
Watch out for the unmarked cars in the Warwickshire section of the M40, which are normally dark coloured Volvo's.

I think you can consider yourself lucky. I live in the Warwickshire area and have learnt most of their habbits through my various sources.
If he was physically holding the laser gun then there would be no video equipment to record your speed and he would have a concealed car on a slip road which he could have radio'ed to chase after you. Warwickshire have very few trafpol cars with the video equipment in unless they are doing Vascar this is because the new VANS now have all the video equipment attached to the laser.
What you need to fear is the Vans. These ones have the video equipment and will send you the NIP through the post and are ruthless especially on the A46

Thanks for that.
I have my RA set to warn me prior to certain bends on the A46 which have "camera van bridges" around them. I shall be more careful around J12, M40 too in future.
I seem to learn these things the hard way. I hope I am lucky on this occasion.

Don't worry, they don't even bother with 85mph these days on the M40. Thats the Average speed on the M40!
Does 'gone' (otherwise known as Steve?) know that and accept it as the norm I wonder?
BTW I've now got that tape back from mungo, as he's been unable to pass it on to you. I guess that little matter is dead now.
Best wishes all,
Dave.

I use the M40 quite a bit, and I have seen camera's being installed around J4/5 as I think there was an accident there ( flowers ) a month ago.
I would love to zap along at 100+ on my blade but dare not risk it any more.
Boring 'aint it

They soon end up passing one of these though....
Or find one of these behind you:
£4.6m by Thames Valley Police alone last year in speeding fines...
