Hi all,

Just trying to help may father-in-law out here in Canada. He has a 1982 Tasmin with the V6 2.8 litre engine. The clutch slave cylinder needs to be replaced and he wants to do it himself. A local shop told him the engine has to be removed to do so. We're skeptical as to whether this is true.

Can anyone provide any advice please?

Thanks very much.

The first 50 or so Tasmins did have a coaxial slave cylinder so had the car been one of those then yes, engine removal is usually required to access the cylinder.
By 1982 though, alternative (cheaper) arrangements had been devised, either hydraulic or cable. Neither should require engine removal for access.

Thanks Wedg1e.

Can we do this on jackstands or would we still need a workshop hoist? Any other advice?

Cheers

Hi mate, As wedg1e says..Engine out if it has this type of slave cylinder..Its actually inside the bell housing..So i think an engine hoist is your best bet...Bit of a pain really..Good luck...ziga

I'd be surprised if an '82 car had the coax cylinder.

Ramps or a pit wuld suffice to get at the external cylinder/ clutch cable if fitted.

OK, so I called him last night and got a bit more information.

The slave cylinder is indeed in the housing. So, definitely sounds like we need to remove the engine. That won't be fun.

I imagine there must be kits to relocate it if we're going to this much trouble?
