Search isnt helping today so...

No matter where I set the controls I now just get hot air from the vents (97 model). Am I correct in thinking that the cold/hot control on the dash opens or closes a valve letting hot air into the heater matrix ? If so can anyone point me to the valve location (with pics if possible). I've checked the bible but it hasnt helped.

Cheers

Hi its in the passenger side foot well up behind the air vent. It is a bit fidly and there is a proper annoying little spring clip that holds the cable sleeve in place.
I would check that it opens/shuts properly. My car runs cool, so I set-it from just about open rather than the full extent of the travel in the closed position.

I bought a pattern part and it was very thin, to the point that it split in the first week of use. No doubt, it was damaged during the installation, but the second one was a genuine Mk1 VW one and was a bit thicker.

Have fun!

Just had similar problems with mine.I found that the send and return pipes had been crossed over in the engine bay!
It runs cool now when closed.

Found the valve, looks very easy to change so ordered one of these. Thanks for the link.

Piece of cake, put the pipes on in the same order so you stop flow before the matrix.
