I'm planning on taking a camper van around Europe for 6 months shortly. If the MOT runs out mid trip and you are in Europe somewhere, whats the deal?

My mate coincided the date with being in Northern Europe and found a dealer in Southern England to MoT the camper for him.

Other than that you could put 12 months on it before you go to save the extra expense crossing the channel.

This is why i thought it may be a daft question! Didn't know you could submit vehicle for MOT months before renewal date.

I think the answer to the question, if you don't get a fresh UK MOT before you leave, is to get a "local" MOT on the continent when yours runs out.

There are mutual recognition laws in the EU which almost certainly mean you'd be in the clear. You would still be well advised to get a new UK MOT when back in the UK though. £50 well spent compared with trying to make a technical argument in front of the magistrates!

Get it MOT'd before you go. Your insurance co. might suggest that you do that as well smile
