Silencing the exhaust system.

Some of you might have seen my post concerning my prep for a sound test

I took the test and only managed 87 dB and I need to do some serious silencing, here I posted a question, I truly hope that someone knowledgeable will be able to help me out

I don't usually post in here, (usually stick to the TVR section), so I'll start with a big hello !!

Here's my problem, I have a TVR ( Tuscan ) which is very very loud !! And I want it to be as quiet as possible for some test.

My question is the following, will it damage the engine or one of the components making the whole engine working properly if I use two silencers from a Peugeot for example and two bike exhaust cans at the end of the silence ?

The point is to reduce the noise by as much as possible without damaging the car.

My last question is, is there a difference between a silencer for a diesel and a petrol ?

My advice would be to stop the garden shed approach as it seems like a lot of hassle with small gains and take it to a TVR garage to resolve for you. Alternative is to take the engine out and install some pedals, much quieter
