3.2 Carrera Sport Project - Now with 964 engine & 292bhp
Discussion
To remind you of the details i acquired a 1985 3.2 carrera sport. Nick Fulljames at Redtek built me a 964 engine with lightened flywheel and some trick cams, Bob Watson installed it and I now have a sport clutch and strengthened 915 gearbox with new synchromesh.
The car went to the upholsterers to remove the centre console, tidy up the headlining and install Recaro Sportster CS seats. Then it went in for new stereo (Porsche Classic with Sat Nav and sub under seat). Then for bodywork which involved losing whale tail in favour of ducktail and new front spoiler for a valance without fogs.
Brand new stainless steel non cat twin exit exhaust fabricated by Redtek, run in and first oil change, then up to Wayne at ChipWizards who took power from 275bhp to 292bhp and dramatically improved driveability and torque, particularly because lightened flywheel was causing lumpy idle and stalling in traffic.
Car finally ready Thursday just in time for trip to Le Mans.
Having owned a stable of real drivers cars this is the best by a significant margin. I am just loving the compliance in the existing suspension and although I was going to go for the EXTC Tuthill set up I am now thinking about tweaking geometry and running as is, but won't make the final decision until I have driven a car with the Tuthills setup.
Massive thanks to everyone back in January that gave me such good advice on this forum about all the options available and feeling very thrilled with the result. Photos of the finished result and video of the session at chip wizards to follow in a day.

Buying second hand Recaro Sportsters was a gamble that didn't pay off as the blue won't hold on to its black dye - So looks like they will need to go back to Strong and Turton to be re-upholstered. BUT you get the idea. Would also like to lose the heavy flag mirrors and offset some black lightweight ones, but that will mean a respray of the doors which seems ilk waste of money right now.
For me 915 gearbox is the one to have, but thats only because i am an early 911 man and enjoy the deliberate and methodical gearchange. At some point would also like to do the adjustable pedal box, just not feeling that pedals are offset in quite the right location, heel and toeing is OK but only just.

FWIW I've got a set in my '73 911. Without doubt they are the most comfortable seats I've ever used in a car, and also give very good support. Having suede-like upholstery as opposed to slippery leather really helps.SS7
