As if I haven't got enough problems, I've now got an itch for a 1930's saloon.

While trawling through the usual sites I can't help noticing that there are quite a few rhd American offerings and they seem to be good value.

Trouble is I know nothing about American cars of this era. I know it's a broad question but are they any good and if so which are the ones to go for and which to avoid ?

really depends exactly what style of car you are looking for,
early mid or late 30s? they developed at an amazing pace within one decade stylistically and technologically.
I am judging fro the term saloon that you maybe looking for something late 30s ?

Yes I noticed the pace of change too. Around 1935 many manufacturers seemed to "modernise" their range considerably.

I think post 1935 appeals to me more.

If you are specifically looking for something in RHD then you may well have to seek out a maclaughlin buick, there are a number of examples in the Uk. A few packards in Rhd kicking about too.

If you fancy a project I know of a right hand drive '37 Lincoln Zephyr four door fastback... running and driving with an MOT but lacking its sidevalve V12 (small block Chevy nowadays). Probably not your sort of thing...
Interestingly we had it parked up with my '36 Austin 16 recently, mine most definitely pre war, Lincoln looking like something easily ten years younger. Mine is all upright and boxy with full running boards and huge headlights, the Lincoln is smooth and rounded with faired in lights and a fastback, the main giveaway to its age being flat glass. In driving as well standard examples seem a decade apart...
