Finally I have put a deposit down on a 7, I pick it up Thursday!!. It is an 1800k and slightly modified with piper cams and verniers, ported and polished head and an emerald ecu.
The previous owner hasn't had it on the rollers at all so he's not sure what sure the bhp is. Is it worth sticking it on the rollers to have it mapped properly. The work was done by dva so I may give them a call. With these modifications am I looking at 160+.

was that the 2000 reg orange aeroscreened one with black wings in the classifieds? Getting it properly mapped, or at least getting the current map checked will make a big difference to the driving experience (if the current map is not great). Speak to Karl at Emerald regarding their recommendation for the closest rolling road to where you're based.
You don't just want a "power run", but want to check part and snap throttle (accelerator clamp) calibrations as well, as these are parts of the map which will be used more in normal driving.

Not sure what loop it's running. Will look into it more once I have picked the car up. What £££'s will I be looking at paying for a proper set up. Will be good to get it home and on the rollers.

I'd expect you'd be paying £250 upwards depending on whether it needs any parts and obviously where you choose to take it. Adam
One would imagine that if it's what DVA set up (that's a "he", not a "they") then it'll be very good indeed. You'd be wasting your money on an RR/mapping session (unless you want to do it for fun).
I'd start by getting it checked out with Dave that it's running the map he set for it.

I'd agree with Bert, if Dave "Oilyhands" has had involvement in the engine build and it has Emerald ECU then it is likely as they say to be "on the money".
From my own personal experience and from what I have read on Blatchat, there are no corners cut with DVA engines which is why he has a several month waiting list.

Although Dave (Andrews) is excellent at what he does, and will supply a good base map, that is all his is able to supply, i.e. a *base* map. A rolling road session will *optimise* this for YOUR engine. If you don't do this, I can't see how you would be in a situation where caterham supply various map revisions for their D500 MBE for example.
Not sure how Dave can fine tune a map from his driveway? Dave W/Steve G do all their fine tuning on the rollers!
I think you might have drunk too much from the "my car needs a RR/mapping session cup" there Fergus

If it has had a bespoke set of DVA tuning mods, it feels unlikely to me (although possible I guess), that Dave might have left it with a half-arsed map or even left it to the owner to get it mapped by the Steves or DW.
So I still think that Dave is the first port of call to save guessing.

Are you too far to make the trip to Norfolk / Thetford area for Emerald themselves?
Mine was mapped by them originally when it was installed in 2002. However due to advances in their Kit they fine tuned it again in 2010. Since then its been a blast. A far smoother power delivery and greatly improved MPG. Well worth a visit.

well I disagree with the "get it mapped" starting point. The starting point is with Dave. Find out what map it should have from Dave's work and get it on that map. The comment on whether Dave is a map expert is daft. He has a great reputation for producing good stuff. If he did the job, it won't have had a crap map.
Getting it mapped from fresh is not a risk free exercise either.
