Can any one help me? When I took the gaiter off the end of the steering rack a load of oil came out and when I checked the PAS fluid level it was nearly empty. I assume the seal has gone. Is this terminal or can you get replacement seals or a reconditioned rack or will I have to replace the whole rack with a new one? If so what are the likely costs.

Because I live over 200 miles from the nearest TVR dealer I intend to try and do the replacement myself. The car is driveable but without fluid in the system am I doing damage to the pump?

Any advice would be appreciated

I had the seal go on my PAS recently. Topcats replaced the "steering rack pinion shaft seal" for me without needing to remove the steering rack or PAS system. The seal cost £9.74 + VAT and it took them 2.5 hours to do. Can't tell you how to do it myself, but i'm sure Brian at Topcats or Jules at Joospeed would be able to give you some tips.

unfortunately if it's leaking into the gaiters it's a rack end seal that's gone and isn't the same seal as topcats replaced in the other reply

the real bugger tho is that cerbera racks are a right royal pain in the arse to remove

Thanks Trooper for the reply, I will order the seals first thing and give the car to a local garage to fit them. I was hoping that the simple and cheep solution would be posible and your reply has just confirmed this, thanks again.

Jules

I looked at the rack and yes I agree with you, it looks like it would be a pain to remove. However it is leaking on the drivers side only and this side does not have any presure seal at the end of the rack so it must be the Hydraulic seal in the centre of the rack. Is this the one Tooper was taking about?
