As mentioned on another thread my car had been booked into centre gravity for some work to be carried out but upon my arrival it was apparent that one of my front shocks was not well, mainly creaking and knocking.

After leaving I booked the car into my local Porsche centre to have the work carried out under the extended warranty.

However, upon chatting with the service manager he said that a 10k mile gt3 with similar problems had a warranty claim rejected as it was put down to wear and tear and that a 17k mile example had no chance.

Not wishing to gamble with the warranty claim as I had an appointement rebooked with chris later this month I had my porsche techi removed the front shocks and with chris''s advice sent them off to bilstein in leicster.

David the workshop manager called today to tell me that it was a common problem with these shocks (wear and tear ey porsche) and that the bearings had been replaced with the newer style upgraded vesions, the price.......

Nothing!!!! Completely FOC.

David did not even want to take anything for the return shipping.

Now thats what I call service, its a shame porsche wont stand behind its products when it comes down to known defects.

Im more than happy to post the details if anyone else requires there services.

Interesting. Mine need doing too apparently. Is the Problem associated with MKI or MKII cars or both? Many thanks!

Germany's premium brand won't stand behind their cars for 10k??
Crumbs - Kia do a 7 year warranty - does make you wonder how much Porsche is worth supporting!

Mine is a mk2 gt2.

With reference to Porsche standing behind there brand, having been with the marque for over 7 years this is something they do not, especially with extended warranty - they will do anything they can to wriggle out of a claim.

One thing that does make me laugh with there so called bumper to bumper waranty is it doesn't cover creaks and rattles - that tells you everything about the confidence they have in there product.

Is it Porsche or the third party company that is rejecting the claim? I would have thought it would be good of your OPC to put in a goodwill claim rather than reject it outright.

Porsche hadn't rejected the claim as such.

The example that was given was straight from the service managers mouth with reference to the 10k mile gt3.

Apparently the dealer principle had words with reading with no positive outcome to the warranty claim being honoured or a goodwill gesture being offered.

As my car was booked in for the end of the month with CG and porsche not being able to look at my car till the 19th I didn't want them saying no to my claim and having rebook my appointment with CG as I couldn't get the shocks rebuilt in time.

So all in all its cost me around £100 in labour and a tenner in postage costs.

Not being picky or owt, but given that Bilstein have done Porsche suspension OEM for donkeys years, is it likely that they were just happy to fix a fault with their own product?
Still nice of them though.

Many say in US and Europe say that Bilsteins are the best aftermarket suspension available. This just strengthens this belief.

I am so glad I read this.

I have had a rattle that comes and goes for the past 10,000miles. Porsche have had three attempts at fixing it, replacing strut tops and arms to no avail. I have told them I think its the dampers, but they cracked on and fitted a 600.00 arm instead. Guess what - still the same.

The rattle is worse when its been sat for a week or so, lessening as I use it. Does this sound like the bush in the shocker?

Again, thanks for this, it looks like I may have to go down the Bilstein Direct route myself, even though the car is still warranted.

I couldnt say to be fair as the car started doing it as I pulled into centre gravity and I had it stripped down ready to send off within a week.

Apparently the knocking and creaking is a very common problem hence why they fit upgraded bearings in them now, however even if the shocks require a full rebuild it shouldn't come to more than £100 per strut.

Also its worth remembering that you should always do the complete axle, so if one of the fronts are knocking - get the pair done.

Mine was put back together this evening and the fix has worked, No knocking or creaking for me smile

I have to say hats off to Chris Franklin at Centre Gravity as without his help and advice this fix would have easily run into four figures.

Absolutely - They stand behind there product that has a known fault and were willing to fix it for free even though they were not obliged to.

My warranty lies with Porsche and if there is a known defect with a part from one of there suppliers then the onus should lie with them.

They are however far to happy to fob off there customers with the "oh its down to wear and tear sir" 17k miles ffs and then try to offer you a good will gesture that WILL come in at more than what a good indie would charge anyway.
