Finished my cosworth brake upgrade yesterday, gave the 887/888 calipers a good clean, put in new seals and pistons to be on the safe side. It all went back together fine and I gave it a quick test drive yesterday, all seemed well but the drivers side disc didn't seem to be bedding in as quick as passenger side(still had machining marks on disc) but didn't pull when braking and all seemed fine.
Took it for a good run today and again seemed ok but sounded to be catching a bit at low speed so I assume it must be as the disc heated up it had expanded and was touching the carrier slightly so thought I'd have to file a bit more out, but when I got home I found the disc is rubbing on the inside of the caliper when it heats up? I can't understand what has gone wrong as its only on the drivers side, only thing I could think of was if the hole I drilled through the carrier was out but seemed to drill perfectly straight and surely would need to be a mile out to catch the disc? Any thoughts or advice please???

To make matters worse I stopped to put the roof in the boot and have a quick check of them, then ended up with the hot start issue for the first time ever! Could have stopped at a worse spot though

Have you measured the disc just to double check they are 283mm. and you havent somehow got an odd pair.

If the discs are good the only explanation i can think of is that somehow you have run out when opening the holes out in the upright. I cant see that though as you are only taking 1mm from each side of the hole, hardly enough to wander.

The only thing you can do is get the disc turned down a couple of mm. or take a bit off the caliper where it is catching.

I have the 283 discs and havent had this problem.

I thought it was the smaller 278 discs that had a much larger spacer to centralise the disc.

I thought 278mm needed a huge spacer and 283mm a 1-2mm spacer. Anyway pulled it apart, discs are 283mm, Ive swapped carriers left to right just incase as i didn't mark which came off which caliper, Ive run a 12mm drill through again just incase-but looked ok poss every so slightly further in towards the centre than the passenger side but you wouldn't notice unless really looking closely and doubt it would make any difference, filed the caliper a bit and have to just get them hot again tomorrow and see how we get on.
Next option is take caliper off and file it some more on the bench or get the disc turned down slightly.

Its no biggy, just relieve enough material form the caliper inner claw if it rubs again, if it only rubbed when hot you are talking fractions really to rectify the situation smile I did this conversion over 4 years ago and have never had any problems whistle

Took it for a run today and either the alterations last night worked or I didn't get them as hot but either way it wasn't touching today, looks bloody close though! Just need to keep an eye on it now Ive put some marker on the edge of the disc to see if it gets rubbed away and for some reason that disc still doesn't seem to be bedding in as quick, just hoping it will settle in and its because it was only pulling on the edge at first because of the disc touching. Can tell the difference straight away though compared to the old 240mm ones.
Plus starters worked everytime today

Well done, the hot start problem wont go away + if you carry out the hot start relay mod you can save problems with the alarm immobizer later on if fitted with the Meta system as it removes the loading on the immobizer internal relay, so win win situation.

Done plenty of searching about the hot start fixes and think I'll do the relay mod plus strip and grease the starter solenid to hopefuly cover it for a while.
