Turkey Kalkan - Recommendations

Was in Kalkan last summer, it's a lovely place you will have a great time. For us it was a massive relax and the wonderful www.villayar.com was fully fitted so we did most of our eating 'at home'
Wandering round the town though there were lots of lovely restaurants offering good quality food. Try dropping PauloBellende a PM for some names of places - I can't remember them unfortunately.
Going out and about is also interesting and there are some lovely 'local' villages with a true Turkish feel, the locals are really friendly. Also worth a ride out to Kas which is along the coast towards Antalya, nice little fishing town with some decent restaurants too.

Loads of suggestions.
Car hire use Pandora at Dalaman airport. (best and cheapest).
Once in Kalkan plenty to do..

We were there last week our usual best restaurants still were excellent.. EXCEPT AUBERGINE this has really gone down hill food wise. Great for a drink and people watching but better alternatives on the port front. TRIO speak with Ali or Murat, COAST speak with Omar and Billy. Mention us and you will get the best table they have available. Also for really good roof top restaurant GIRONDA stands above the others. Manager there is Jimmy. These three are constantly good.
Beach clubs: Palm Beach ideal and nice salads. Villa Mahal good too as part of boutique Hotel, although sadly they only let you have a bed in the "public area".
Days out, if really hot go up into the hills to the trout farms, really cool and different. If you get time a MUST is the fish market in Fethiye for lunch or dinner, pick your own they then cook it. Then all our guests seem to really enjoy the Gulet trips. These are about 30 TL so bargain. Take your suncream.

I had my 40th there in October, the last week in Octoberto be factual. The weather was mid 20s ranging from 23 to 27degs sometimes it can be even warmer. The later you leave it in October/November you may get a day of rain or cloud. We actually had 7 days sun but the night we left was a large thunderstorm which I guess could have lasted a day or two. Saying that as I type its mid June here and it looks like November!
When booking bear in mind there is a kids holiday end of October so avoid as flights tend to be slightly higher then. If you need any advice on where to stay happy to oblige if its a Hotel you want for example.

Brilliant, thanks for the advice. We are looking to keep the costs down as we've already had a honeymoon in New York/St Lucia this year! However we traditionally go away at the end of September due to my work, and don't want to wait until 2013!
So we will probably go either self catering or B&B. I prefer having breakfast made for me on holiday!
Looks like we will miss the October half term holiday, I can only really get the one week off in early October, and my wife is a childrens librarian and is usually busy with work in kids holidays!

Self catering apartments and villas too I can advise on.
If you are prepared to do last minute message me first week in october and i will be able to find you something 30 to 40 percent off if you are going within ten days of your booking.

Agree, The Olive Garden is consistantly good, as is the Fish Terrace nearby and Kalamaki. The Olive Garden also been well established.mike80 said:

I think we may well be going there next summer too (on Paul's recommendation above). Could I ask where you are looking for flights etc?

Edited to add: Dalaman or Antalya Airport: which is best? I appreciate that the latter is further away but does anyone know which one gets more flights?

I'd be happy to be advised on hotels, looking for luxury ones but close to the restaurants. Budget is open (ish).Can advise on hotels depending on your budget.

Is the beach nice and clean and will it be crowded in early September?

To answer your questions. The most reliable firm in Kalkan is Enes. Uniformed drivers and always on time.
Google Enes transfers Kalkan. They will come up.
As for the request for a hotel, my firm favorite is Villa Mahal. www.villamahal.com Whilst the rooms are not the biggets on the bay, the views and location are easily the best by far.
You also ask for help on airports. Without repeating myself, the website www.villayar.com has all the carriers and airport details from all UK airports on it.
Dalaman is closer than Antalya. 1.15hr V 2hr. So it depends if your flight to Antalya is much cheaper then go for that.
The Q was asked about September.. for me the best months are June and September out of holidays, not so hot and still busy. Kalkan is busy April 1st to November 1st with peak periods July 23rd to Sept 6th approx.

Must also suggest if Villa Mahal is a bit small and boutique style and you are after more "chatting about the pool" meeting people and having a slightly larger hotel next best bet in my opinion (I was there before it was even built!) is..
