Is it me or do some just hoof it and aim, hoping for the best, encountered two, one a new Discovery and one X5 this morning, the Discovery was the worst, a middle aged lady driving, I had the right of way and her side was blocked by a car, she just buried the throttle and charged through causing me to have to brake, the sound of a six cylinder diesel giving its all ringing in my ears.
If I had carried on my trajectory and not deffered she would have hit me, no doubt about it, she and her car would have come off better but even so, would have been a bit of a mess and a big insurance claim.
the second was an X5, I stopped as I had a parked car on my side of the road and another car coming the other way, the X5 overtook me into the path of the car coming through who stopped and blared his horn, the X5 squeezed through the gap and scuttled off at high speed.
I see a black RR Sport every morning with the reg "RATTY" or similar mis spaced, I have to watch out for this one every day as the driver seems unable to keep to one side of the road and always seems to be setting a personal best journey time !
I am not an SUV hater, far from it, they make sense with the crap roads these days and thats what the market demands, I dotn think they are climate vandals or whatever, I am not jealous, if I wanted one I could buy one.
Is it me noticing because they are big, is it partly the demographic that buy them or does the power delivery, size and automatic box foster that kind of driving ?

t driving isn't just confined to SUV drivers. I think they're more noticeable/memorable just due to the size of the things. But then there is something to be said for being wrapped in the best part of three tonnes of steel that seems to bring out the inner knobbishness/self-importance in everyone.

High up, feel protected and strong...with women they blindly refuse to see what's around them, with men it simply increaes their belief that they can do what (and go where) they want...
A very good friend of mine...a pilot, alpha male type, used to have a Shogun, with one arm on the centre armrest and the other gently holding the wheel he casually aimed his car at others to make sure he had enough space, regardless of the situation...
In every other car he has owned, he's fast and sure minded, but never 'aims' it at anyone...

Trouble is, in an SUV, it's easy to feel safer, less vulnerable and being higher up you have less of a sense of momentum, the big tyres and squidgy suspension absorbing everything from a large stone right up to your average 8 year old - you wouldn't even notice.
Worst part is these higher ride-height cars with the Daytime Running Lights - they now shine right into your average-sized car at any time of the day!
Was being followed a little too closely by an Audi SUV thing today with the plate "LEK4N". No idea what Mr Leaking does for a living but he was very keen to get there and very irritating on the commute.

I live in London and there are shed loads of them here.
The most dangerous ones seem to be new-ish black ones driven by small, well made-up women. Their general attitude seems to be translate as "f*ck off proles, I'm coming through".
Although in fact they are probably just day dreaming about nail bars, nannies and prep schools and are in fact oblivious to the trail of havoc in their wake.

I think alot of SUV drivers forget how big and heavy they are, and expect them to handle like the corsa they learnt to drive in.
Some tt in a range rover nearly took me and an Alfa the other day. Was pulling away from some lights at a junction turning right, there were two lanes and the Alfa was ahead of me with the range rover in the right hand lane. Green light comes one and me and the Alfa set off, the prick in the RR wasn't paying attention and missed the green and must have took a personal insult to us beating him off the line (not like we were racing mind) and floors it. The lanes bend right at an advers camber and over a crest at the same time, it was also wet. This tool in the RR who has no concept of inertia or grip, chucks the 2 tonne vehicle into the tight bend at around 30-40mph, obviously understeers and nearly takes the Alfa out, but luckily the driver was paying attention and swerved, and luckily I was too and managed to stop in time.
It frustrates me there are people who have no concept of what damage their vehicles can do.

Could have been a momentary lapse.I was following a car up a road with cars parked on both sides. He pulled into the side so I just carry on not realising he was giving way to someone coming the other way. I thought he was parking. Luckily the on-comer was able to pull in. Cue 'sorry mate waving' and a sheepish slink away.
Another one, a VW Touareg thing this morning, I was turning right over an awkward mini roundabout with traffic from four sides where people not indicating is a problem so very cautious, a well lit big black car coming from my right but a fair distance away, I turn right and get halfway across and the car to my left carries on unabated so I slow a bit as not sure if the driver has seen me and want to avoid swapping paint so the Toerag is then upon me, the driver obviously aware of what is going on but doesnt like the fact they couldnt straight line the roundabout at speed so makes a point of stopping 2 inches from the side of my car and blowing the horn.
Maybe it was my fault, but it didnt feel like it, seemed unnecessary.

Look at the demographic. They are mainly purchased for school run duties or reps, neither of whom give a fk about other road users. Never give way, never thank you for letting them out, etc. I had one glued to my bumper on the M3 last night at about 85, despite his elevated driving position I guess he didn't see the cars in front. I know not everyone who drives them are useless but they attract a certain type individual.

Very true round my way. Often seen parked illegally right outside school gates then doing 9 point turns and holding up two lanes of traffic, etc etc.k about other road users. They're not all driven like that, obviously, but I do think they attract the sorts who really can't be arsed with too much compromise on their part.
