I bought a new cooper s last april in sydney australia and its done 9000kms.

Its been back in the garage 7 times now each for a different reason. Its easier to list the problems:

1) Steering column needed changing, grinding sound. Problem when bought.
2) Reflector off passenger door needed replacing after falling off. Happened again 2 weeks ago so needs replacing again.
3) New handles replaced on inside of both doors as silver paint peeling off.
4) New boot lock as wouldn’t  close.
5) Passenger seat mechanism broke and seat wouldn't move back, been replaced? But still sticks. Also leather trim/ thread was coming undone, mended.
6) Drivers seat leather replaced as stitching came away, was replaced and yellow stitching was used, argued with mini to replace as it looked like a bodge job, they refused to replace it.
7) Steering wheel replaced twice. First time paint peeling off centre, second time as the leather on top peeled away.
8) Both mini cooper s metal strips inside door were replaced as the glue came away, the door was scratched.
9) Engine coolent exploded all over the engine and was replaced but had to ask them again to clean the engine off.
10) Hand break leather surround was replaced as a hole appeared and the leather came away from the surround.
11) Centre console around the stereo was replaced as the paint was peeling off.
12) Passenger window sometimes doesn’t shut properly and catches on the rubber surround
13) Gear knob replaced and the leather surround at the bottom needs replacing as a hole has appear where it is fastened in.
14) Gear knob came off in my hand 2 weeks ago when pulling out of a road going from first to second. Car missed the gear and nearly caused an accident.
15)  Drinks tray needed replacing after lid fell off.
16) New engine emission system
17)New Sunroof as it refused to close past half way that was last weeks problem.

5/08/04 - Just got the car back from BMW after they installed a new sunroof and they forgot to put the interior light back, plus this morning the passenger seat belt broke.

BMW have said they wont replace the car and stand behind the vehicle, i tell them they wont be standing behind it for much longer as its falling to bits!

Have had many people in Australia experience the same and more problems .
Anyone else had problems over in the uk?
