If the driver of another car was to needlessly and deliberately slam on his anchors in front of you (several times in a very short section of road) almost as if he was trying to get you to hit him for some imagined slight (such as beeping your horn at him for swerving out in front of you without indicating, causing you to perform an emergency stop), what offence, if any, would he be committing?

This is not about who would be at fault if you hit him, but whether his deliberate actions would be a)breaking any laws, or b) considering a contributing factor in any subsequent collision.

All purely hypothetical of course, and nothing to do with the knobhead who pulled out, without indicating, straight in front of me yesterday and then proceeded to slam on his anchors in the middle of a busy junction for no reason, twice. And then get out his car and give me a load of verbal abuse...

Where's that wnaker smiley when you need it?

Cheers!

I think a prolonged number or brake slammings and perhaps a couple of other actions would be needed..

Not to mention independant witnesses etc..

If in any doubt in such situations...take another turning and do the block before continuing..It's not worth the hassle to get involved, but very tempting, I know.

Normally, I would have, but this was in very busy rush hour traffic, and at one point he slammed on the brakes in the middle of a yellow criss-cross box junction when the exits were clear!

So many people are too lazy to indicate these days (why? it's not hard!) and those that do seem to think that turning on their indicators automatically gives then right of way! Maybe I just need to develop some psychic powers, after all every other driver seems to have them

I'm not sure whether it would be dangerous driving (S2 RTA 1988) (strictly according to the law), but would more likely be due care (s3 RTA 1988).

It's a bit tricky to say really just from the info given.

You could always call the local force and report it - although as Street rightly points out, without any independet witnesses, it's always going to be "six of one..."

Just thinking that repeatedly braking hard, when another vehicle is behind you, would amount to driving that 'fell far below' what would be expected of a safe, careful driver and a safe, careful driver witnessing the incident would view it as dangerous.

It sounds also like a prolonged series of events as opposed to something merely incidental..

Sorry, I was obviosuly thinking what the emasculated CPS would "let" us charge with... rather than what actually happened. I'll get me coat...

You stay where you are mate..no worries..

You're probably right as CPS would accept a plea bargain to due care, i would expect anyway..

Very good sir.

Where are you, and where do you wish to go?

Best wishes all,
Dave - not your ordinary taxi driver!

Oi, I've already bagged pole position as Dibble's driver. Grab the bag and form an orderly queue please.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Is dangerous driving an arrestable offence?

If so, would one be permitted to make a citizen's arrest? How could you legitimately go about this without incurring trouble from the BiB yourself?
