The M6 Toll Road is a commercial disaster, too expensive and not enough users.

A rumour is doing the rounds is that it is to become the first de-restricted road in the UK when the traffic volumes are low.

I think that this is terrific idea myself and would be first in the queue with my coins!

What do you think?

Never gonna happen.

But if it does...

I'll give it a few weeks for Darwinism to take its toll and remove the idiots who go for high speed runs with no skill/experience etc and then go for a vmax run!

Sounds like a great idea and i'd use it just for that reason; sadly it'll never happen for elf n safety reasons.

Highly unlikely, and as another fly in the ointment, a lot of cars will be uninsured with the "no de-restricted toll roads" anti-nurburgring crap that shove into policies.

I think all motorways should be limit free, but I don't think any of them ever will be again.

I thought it was wink

last time I drove on it, there were 3 cars southbound, a TT, a cop car and myself, the other 2 were going faster, (the TT being the quickest of the 3 of us) than me and I was close to instant ban speeds! The cops just weren't interested in the TT or myself thankfully

That was brave - how did you know they weren't interested?

I use it a bit and it's unusual if I don't see someone being stopped by an unmarked car. They also started doing people in the 50 area on the approach to the tolls, which the M4 crossing is notorious for.

It should be used for the real reason it needed to be built in the first place. To ease congestion and not as a cash cow which thankfully it hasn't been.Time to remove the toll barriers and get it flowing with traffic...

Have made some lovely late night swift progress on that road, it's often virtually empty, I've been cruising along at sensibleish speeds and get passed by mercs/bmw/jags that must be doing 120ish regularly, all seems safe and undramatic to me.

In my utopia there are nationwide unlmited toll tunnels linking all major cities, you get a secret invite and knowledge of said tunnels when you buy your first rear wheel drive car, commercial vehicles are banned and the service stations serve dirty takeaways while cleaning your car and checking your tyre pressure and oil levels.
The following things see you banned:
Children
Fog lights when it's not foggy
Driving aggresively
Not moving over after an overtake
Bad haircuts

I call it being young and stupid, I am now thankfully older and wiser! How do I know they weren't interested? Because they went straight past me, no attempt to pull me over etc, and they weren't on blues. They looked like they were enjoying the empty road just as much as I was.

I refuse to use it now as the price is just silly, I only travel at nights now on my way to Shropshire, so use the M6 all the way to the 54.

A mate of mine got an FPN on there for 90, but the copper said he would probably have ignored 80.
