Hi all, any beetle experts? This landed on the patio earlier - is it a stag beetle? If not, is it dangerous? Pincers look a bit dubious! Thanks!

Rather than start a new thread does anybody know what this is?

I get about 5 in my garage every day, usually about dead upside down and slowly moving their legs, also one or two grub worm things every now and then, I take it that's where these come from originally but not sure what it is.

Always in the same area, I have looked for signs around there but nothing noticeable

The closest beetle I could get was a garden chafer, pretty sure it isn't a roach as there is no food or water in the garage and the antennae don't look anywhere near long enough for one of those.

Looks like a maybug to me. Often seen dead and gooey. Not sure on the worm thing tough.

I wouldn't say its a maybug, they look more like this (check the antennae)

Garden chafer seems unlikely too as a bit of googling shows their grubs are white. I'm stumped on that one, got any better pics?

Top one is definitley a stag beetle, very cool!

Someone suggested a rain beetle.

The numbers are dropping, 2 or 3 a day is all there is usually.

The background is this biglaugh
