Morning. I'll try and keep this brief. I went online the other day to open up a Post Office savings account, seemed a good rate (around the 3% mark), leave it in there 12 months etc, perfect. So, I complete all the details, how I'm funding it, where I live, my current Bank details etc etc. At the end, it then asks me to send off 2 forms of id, one from each list they've given along with a Solicitors signature, date, occupation and Business details.

Anyway, 3 days later, it all comes back in the post saying it wasn't exactly what they wanted, could I go off and complete the forms properly? A bit miffed, I rang them, and apparantly, I would have been able to complete all my account set up on-line without having to send paperwork off to them if my details would have come back as clear when they checked it against an Experian list?

Now, I've opened up Egg account, ING accounts, Nationwide accounts, Halifax accounts, etc all within the last 12 months, with no problem at all. No paperwork required.

Have I suddenly appeared on some black list? I've e-mailed Experian but no reply as yet.

Anyone else have this sort of problem with the Post Office or Experian?

Thanks. Simon.

They , along with most institutes, have means to verify your identity online by cross referencing your details with Experian. They have obviously not been able to do this via the documents you have sent, were they clear copies?

It doesn't mean your blacklisted, just that they are unable to verify you yet.

Hi, yes, clear copies, both signed, named, dated by my Solicitor, a passport and a credit card statement (as requested). The reason seemed to be that my Solicitor actually hadn't written something like "confirmed as correct" on each copy. It's not the returning of the paperwork that's got me worrying, it's the fact that when I questioned it on the phone they indicated that I wouldn't have to send anything off if I was found as "ok" when they ran a background check.

I'm just a little concerned that if I decide to open up another account, say with Santander, they also won't find me and I'll have to go through the copies, form filling and paperwork route all over again just because of a possible error on the Experian file?

I'll wait to see if I hear from Experian I guess.

Thanks for help though. Simon.

Ah.

When I certify documents I have to not only sign, date it and state my occupation, I need to also state;

"I certify that this is a true copy of the original document"

Think that's the wording they asked for.

Just weird that Post Office have asked for all of this when none of the other on-line accounts I've opened did.

Never mind.

Simon.
