magical maestro tour !
Discussion
We stopped off at Pegasus bridge on the way to the ferry .
The maestro waa built in bulgaria, lhd powered by the mighty 1275 cc mini engine, using a 5 speed vw gearbox .
Cruising speed 72mph, we didnt bother the boys in blue.
If anyone has photos of us out and about in le mans feel free to post them on here.
Thanks to everyone who said hi or came over to chat and take photos.
Only problem on the 1600km adventure was the vacumn advance pipe perished forcing a heath robinson fix using the washer jet pipe ! We calles into a french garage some 7 hours later where we were greeted with much laughter, they provided free of charge a replacement pipe ! We left the guys a few beers and set on our way ! Merci to the happy mechanics !

Glad you had a great time John. Car looked great! Catch up soon...
hi chris, not our usual type of ride, but very comfortable and a great motorway cruiser !if only it had a bigger engine ......
hills were major obstacles as was the ferry ramps
four up and all our gear, 63bhp when new ! power to weight must have been in the low 30's
John - it was possibly the most fun I have had on a trip to Le Mans - I am still recovering from the sugar rush I had while driving it through Le Mans town centre and as for Peter's driving skills while I was in the front seat required me to read the paper so I really couldn't see what was going on in front !
By far the most comfy seats I have travelled down to Le Mans in the last few years
I had to laugh at the flicker video of it - a bit of T cut and a few more stickers and it was fine.
Not quite sure what we are going to do with the beast now - either keep it, sell it, rent it out, race it...with such a powerful engine the list is endless !!

How the hell do you end up with a left-hooker Maestro on UK plates - that car must have a bit of history to it!
It certainly has , its a original Bulgarian Rodacar CKD built from the knock down kits sold for the Bulgarian goverments fleet, however after that deal fell through some were bought through a company called Apple in 2000 and it was sold in the UK. It lived with an ex-pat for a few years in sunny Spain and then it was transformed into a thinly disguised tribute to Paddy Hpkirk and the BMC Rally Cars of the 1960'sIt went on the 2009 Staples to Naples Rally, then it did a Alps run of 4800 km in a week, followed by a tour of France in 2010/2011 and then our Le Mans tour of 1600 KM for the motortrade charity BEN and also our general amusement.
...god knows what its going to do next...anyone fancy taking it to the Le Mans Classic?

I will! Never been to the Classic. Seems like a lot of fun.
