Advice needed: Removing number plate fixings

Hi All,

I've just received confirmation of my new registration plate transfer so can put my new plates on my car, I've just taken the caps off the existing screws but it's a weird fixing D: has anyone come across this arrangement? and know the easiest way to remove them? I'm assuming they're some sort of anti tamper screws and not meant to be removed >.> I probably should have checked before buying a new plate .


Any advice would be very much appreciated.
P.S I don't want to hear anything about how dirty my plate is!, yes I know it's been neglected haha

Looks like a rivet, will need drilling out.

Absolute cobblers.

That's just a plastic plug pushed into the hole. When the screw is inserted the plug then expands sideways and grips the hole. With a bit of luck if you partially insert a screw into the plug and the pull the screw with a pair of pliers the whole thing will come out.

Maybe the OP can confirm whether it is indeed a rivet or a plastic insert.....

Looks like a Japanese rivet to me.
