Get it checked for over-revs.

over revs
service history
Warranty
diff
Clutch
body damage/paintwork
Shocks
Disks and pads
geo
Tyres
Hpi clear
MOT
passes a 111 OPC check
prices seem very mileage sensitive
and the must have buckets seats :-)

realising these can be upto 6 years old now, so watch what you are paying for.

cars are now 47k to 67k so a massive range in pricing, give you an idear if you buy one at 67k and put another 10k miles on one what it will be worth, not including a refresh.

I know for a fact a lot of these get sold on just befor a lot of works needs doing and a trader is certainly not going to do it.
if a car needs a new clutch, disks, tyres and a service some times it's best just to punt it in as the 5k trade in loss is cheaper then the cost to do the work, you see a lot of these cars for sale at non Porsche dealers, looking like bargin, but needing some lovin.

Figure out what you want to use the car for. Whats the purpose of entering into ownership of such an accomplished machine?

Having made your mind up with that - you can then start to look at the kind of extras and general gadgets you want.

Touring (comfort spec) or Clubsport - full on racing with the carbon buckets and full cage?
Satnav, 6 point seat belts (driver and passenger?), floor mats, Sport chrono, cup tires or SP2?

Then start looking at your budget and the available stock of cars. There are many cars available at teh market, and if you start trying to compare a touring spec satnav car - with a low spec full on Clubsport you are bound to be confused about the prices.

I knew from the get go that I was after a full on Clubsport with harness focused for track driving and as many visits to the Ring as I can cram into my calendar. That narrows down your options wink

And remember, just buy the best car available at your budget - and enjoy it!!!

Thanks all!

I'm going to use it as a toy, as I have a company car to use every day. So fast road runs on nice dry days and maybe one or two trackdays (maximum) per annum. I would love to take it to the Nurburgring or Spa, for example.

To me this dictates "comfort" spec, not least because I don't fit into the bucket seats. Equally I would really like PCCB's (as they're mega when you're the last of the late brakers), but Xenons are essential and the sound pack would be nice too. I really don't need PCM - but most seem to have it.

I'm now probably going down the OPC route - mainly because there are a few "comfort" spec cars around, and with everyone's comments, that 2yr warranty looks invaluable. Equally I'm fussy, so it'll get me the exceptional condition I want (although I'm sure I'll pay for it). Probably looking at 2007 car with 10-20,000 miles.

Not excited at all! yes

IMHO

Track use = buckets

Road use / weekend toy = non buckets

Get one with a warranty for peace of mind knowing all the checks have been done.

Then buy it and enjoy it, they are one of the best cars you'll ever drive smile

It is - I've driven it and it's smashing! That's what lit the blue touchpaper and I fully intended to buy it until I realised that the seats were hurting me after a 20 minute test drive .... weeping

Can't you buy it and retro fit comfort seats?

thing is, as much as i love them too, if you park in a car park for work it's a ball ache trying to climb into the things when some twunt parks 6 inch off your drivers side!

i only had the caymanR for 4 days it it wound me up a bit. seeing as i'll track a gt3 i think it's worth the trade off but if i was only doing 2 events a year i'd wonder if it was worth the effort myself.

As the Op said he has a company car and the GT3 is a toy,

Buckets is the only choice, :-)

But he doesn't like them, they don't fit him.

This is too difficult!

BTW - To the OP, try hunting down a car with Sports Adaptive Seats, they are a good half way house.

I have the adaptive sport seats in mine, I believe they have 27 way adjustment and they are so very comfy, I'm not planning on tracking it except maybe a few laps of the ring while touring.
My car is full on comfort spec with full leather and alcantara, sat nav, cruise control, adaptive sports seats,bi xenons, sports chrono, it's even got a sunroof! For what I'll be using it for which is sunny days and a bit of touring this is the ideal spec and I don't think it lessens the driving experiance at all having a few luxuries.
Of course if I was going to be using a gt3 for mainly trackdays I'd want full club sport spec or an RS.
I bought from JZM and was pleased with the service provided.

+1 the folding buckets in my 3 are the most comfortable seats I ever had - they beat my Conti GT by miles...

Aah that's one of the many fantastic things about GT3's, they offer a choice of either smile

Driven lots of bucketed Porsches and yes they're great seats, just not the deciding factor for me.

Agree 100% with comments that the GT3 buckets are the best & most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. I've done 76,000 miles in mine so I must love them smile

There is always the option of fitting the Recaro XL seat if the OP is of the "larger gentleman" variety...
