Wondered what folks's opinions/suggestions on the best form of daily driver for around the 20-30k mark?

must be a luxury car, reasonably sporty and reasonably practical (getting the shopping in etc.)

Not too bothered about fuel but just for practicality no sub 15mpg hoovers!

Will consider all body types coupé and saloon but need rear seats for small kids.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

P.S i tend to change my car every 6-12 months but looking for a "keeper" something that's I wont get too bored of.

Passat r36 is a car that sounds like it meets your needs, used examples are vgvfm. A monaro would be another good option

E92 M3 would manage all those I'd have thought.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Ive been looking at the 635d's although i think the residuals are about to take a nose dive with the new 640 now out?

Love the new 730d's M Sports not really fond of the pre 07 cars. The new ones are still top of my money at the moment.

Ive had a FFRR before never a sport...would be maybe tempted by the TDV8 over the V6, are they much better?

M5 & M6 although excellent financial propositions as prices are bargains at the moment, I dont think i could stomach the crap tank range and MPG values.

The r36 Passat ive never heard of...ill look into them.

I would LOVE a 911 (996 turbo/997C2s) but the other have says "not practical enough" (the other cars a fiat 500)

Anyone else been in the same situation...what did you go for?

Why don't you go all sensible and buy a used Maserati Quattroporte? Plenty of change out of £20-£30k so fuel clearly wouldn't be a problem. cool

That suggestion is on the house.

Rs4 is tempting, never had an Audi in years , what they like ?

I love the quattroporte anyone running one? Would be interested to hear what there like for daily commute Inc mpg and servicing. I love it's styling but do you think it's beginning to look dated even now?

I thought the XJR was a bit old man for me...do like the XKR (facelift) though!! recently seen one in grey with grey conv roof....stunning!

Am i right in thinking that 166 Alfa has the same interior as a 30k Quattroporte!

It has Momo leather, same as in my 156, although the seats are heated, more voluptuous and electrically adjustable on the 166.
It really is top notch stuff, many line the sides and back in cheap vinyl crap, these are 100% leather and its really soft.
If I find a 166 like this next year I may be tempted.

It also has a sporty exhaust, essential with that Busso V6... the noise!

Paraphrasing, he says "I expected it to be a 164..."

How on earth did that work?

The new XJs are now moving within your budget (although not the supercharged versions) and most definitely not too "old man":

5ltr V8, 25mpg combined, 0-60 in 5.4 and none too shabby around corners

If you like the newer XKRs, then it could be worth looking at for the extra room inside.
