Not sure if the b-pillar (between side window and rear quarter window) is the same in all Porsches as it is in the Cayman, but does anyone know if it is structural, or made up of pieces? Reason being that mine is rattling and through an on-going saga I'm too annoyed to discuss at the moment, the dealer hasn't been able to find the fault, but were sure it was the door or side window. I've now had a better chance to look myself and when I push on it, it makes the clicking sound it does when rattling during motion; problem is, I don't know whether to tackle to rattle myself.

In the Cayman the b-pillar from the inside is a curved metal, but unsure if that is clicked to something behind it, or whether it might be catching on the rear quarter window.

Sorry for such an odd question/request for help!

Any thoughts on this one? Appreciate not many will know given it isn't a part of the car that grabs attention!!!

I believe this is a fairly common issue. You may want to check over on Planet9.com to see what people are doing as I seem to remember reading about a fix.

Yep, common issue with the plastic nut holding the trim in place. If it is overtightened it strips the plastic thread.

Thanks guys, hadn't realised just how common this is, I'll take a look tomorrow but will certainly tell the dealer to fix on Monday if I've not braved it in the meantime.

Sorted, was back in for repairs to my air-con today and despite them suggesting they had fixed the rattle three times (by adjusting the door and window) I pointed out that it is the b-pillar and specifically the bolt which fixes it and the rear quarter window in place; and that it is a common fault on the Cayman.

They took a look, agreed, packed it out and tightened it up and rattle is gone.

Ah.... the joys of having a Spyder with no B-pillar....
wink

Is everything else sorted?
What was actually wrong with the car?

Knowledge is power when dealing with, er... dealers.

In brief, I bought the car from a dealer 250 miles away and was told it was perfect; I found after getting home that the air-con didn't work, the clutch peddle squeeked and that I had this annoying rattle from the b-pillar. I couldn't get the car booked in to my local OPC for 2 weeks, so combined with the week it has taken to fix, I've basically been unable to really enjoy the car since purchase 3 weeks ago.

All fixed now though and very happy. My local OPC have been excellent in terms of service (not quite so much on knowledge of the rattle) and even promised to send me a touch-up paint for my stone chipped wheel which is good of them considering none of this is their fault. As for the dealer I bought from, they have been very good too, always chasing me for updates, but I will be looking for some compo simply because of the expense I've personally gone to to get the car fixed, as I've done a few journeys adding up to 6 hours and taken 3 days out of work to wait.

No biggy though, I really love the car so now is all about enjoyment; only got the car back today and already taken it out with o/h in the lovely weather for a countryside pub dinner (the car has steak).
