Very quick question....interview tomorrow morning...

I have a second interview tomorrow morning where I'm presenting to two people. I've been told to produce a ten-minute presentation. I've done the powerpoint, now do I take my laptop in and show it like normal or shall I present it on my iPad?

Baring in mind it's for an IT consultancy. Seeing as there are only two people, and the room - if it's the same room I had my first interview in - is tiny, so putting an iPad on the desk in front of them wouldn't be a problem (i.e it's not a big board room with projector).

But at the same time I don't want to appear "flashy" with my iPad?
FYI I've been told that the other interviewee (there's two of us) is using a laptop.

Depends on what type of presentation you are doing. If it's something to do with apple based apps I would consider the iPad but otherwise it's laptop every time. With a laptop you can connect to a projector easier if needed. Bigger screen = better view = win.

How about take both and ask if they have a preference? If they don't, use whichever you think is most appropriate.

Yeah if I had a normal sized laptop I wouldn't mind but mine's a whopper - 19" screen, so I don't want to take it unless I'm goin to use it. Hmm.

Does the minor inconvenience of taking a laptop to an interview outweigh the amount you want it?

If so, do everyone a favour and call the thing off.

If you do go be sure to mention this ridiculous dithering when they ask you if you have any weaknesses!

I would rather watch a presentation on a 19" screen than an IPad if I was given a choice

Considering that so few have the presentation skills to be able to use electronic support effectively; consider what is going to be added by using either a laptop or iPad. Simply speaking and giving one or two paper based handouts to reinforce any points if neccesary could be simpler, more effective, less to go wrong and will not highlight ineffective PowerPoint skills (using slides simply as a place to put your speaking notes as opposed to using a few slides only to reinforce certain points, often pictorially). Yeah it was fine, I took both, but as we were in the small room (as predicted) and there wasn't even space to stand up I did it sitting round the table with them. I asked them if they had a preference and they responded positively to the fact that I had the option of the iPad so I used that and it worked well.

And yes I've done many presentations in my time so I know that the slides are only a visual guide to what I'm saying, and I don't like to have notes so I just talk through it.

It went down well but we'll see!
