is that really the common consensus?

Why's that then? Forgive my ignorance but what is likely to go wrong that the warrenty will cover you for?

Clutch?
Dampers?
Discs & pads?
Diff pack?
Front rads?

Now, I'm not an expert but I would the warrenty actually cover any of those except the front rads (which doesn't look like too much of a job to me)?

What are the other likely suspects? A coolant connection on top of the engine? That's not exactly a widespread problem or is it? RMS? Do it when it needs a clutch perhaps?

I'm genuinely intrigued

That looks like a well priced good looking car to me but I would still have aOPC warranty on it as a new engine is around £40k I believe, so not worth the risk otherwise ,even though the GT3 engine has a good reputation.

It's a good question I think. I bought my GT3 RS from JZM and I could have taken it to Porsche for a warranty but fitted a Europipe exhaust so couldn't even if I wanted to.

If/when I sell new owner could revert to standard easily and get warranty for peace of mind.

The worry must be engine going bang I suppose? Everything else could be replaced without outrageous levels of expenditure.

So it's engine insurance. Or am I missing something?

Out of interest has anyone had the top mounts done under warranty on a 997 GT3/2?

As for owning one out of warranty it depends on your attitude to risk, for the cost of the warranty and what it can potentially cover for me it's a no brainer.

It's arguable. The chap I bought my car from has the front rad replaced under warranty (which I intend to renew come September).

They tried to get out of it saying it was wear and tear (stone went through), but he argued that it was a design fault and they conceded.

Don't bother with a warranty if you are taking your GT3 on track. Warranty claims are instantly Void if your car is pictured on a track or the computer readout suggests you were on a track.

THat is simply not true. I took mine to Spa and my OPC were aware and encourage track use - they do not care about track use and warranty. What they do care about is over revs though.

I know this one has zero rev ranges and has remianing OPC warranty smile

I think that's the rub isn't it, what is it these days 1200 p/a? That's a lot of repairs.....
