Wanted to Buy - Fury or Phoenix - Race Prepped

Hi guys,
Im currently running an MNR Vortx with a supercharged R1 on the track over here in China.
However, its an early chassis and weighs in at 545kg with 1/2 tank of fuel - without driver.
So, Im in the market for something lighter, was thinking of getting the new MNR chassis but it seems the Fury/Phoenix's slippery shape, along with its weight may be a better solution.
Anyone out there got a race prepped Fury/Phoenix they want to sell, or know of a good one for sale?

I have a race Pheonix in Malaysia, (loads of photos on the Asia thread) which I think is the only Sylva in Asia, was not easy to import, (and not for sale) my experience is you'd be lucky to get below the weight you have with a Pheonix and no chance with a Fury, mine is 676Kg and and has a light weight body, not the origianl supplied by Sylva, changing that toke 30KG off, OK it was not built as a light weight as it has over 400bhp, but apart from a full cage it has nothing in it that is surplus.
If you ship from the UK I'm sure you know to be carfull on engine choice I had a huge problem supporting and getting parts for mine when it had a European engine and box, and in the end went for Jap one.
What series do you race in in China? is my car eligable? may consider shipping in for a few races if it was.

My roadgoing sprint prepared R1 Phoenix weighs 450kgs with fuel and a plumbed in extinguisher and all cut off switches etc. Add a full cage with doorbars and it would still be under 500kgs easily.
Contact Steve Hughes at Fury Sportscars, he usually knows of several race cars for sale. A Fury is no heavier than a Phoenix when built properly to race regs. 500kgs is easy, your supercharger install would add a bit though.

Jeeeees what's it made of?I have a road going Fury, standard weight body & chassis, two seats / harnesses, full glass windscreen, two doors, carpet, FIA roll bar, stereo, Zetec & type nine. With a full fuel tank it weighed 590Kg at SVA.
Bike engined, doorless, aeroscreen Furys generally come in at the upper end of 450 - 500Kg
Mainly is the engine, steel SR20 Det with a big turbo, intercooler and a huge radiator for the tropics, also a full cage, the only other things that add weight over a std car is the brakes and wheels, it has 17x8 wheels with 6 pot breembo plus add a few kilo for the plumed in fire system and the front splitter ARB.
But it amazes me how it puts on weight everything is light weight, digi dash and data logger, alloy single seat, no hand brake no lights, light weight front cam shell. It does have 450 BHp so it can handle being a bit fat.

Yep, my front clam need repainting every few months as it is "race weight" layup, easily chips and starcracks and actually melted on the banks of Lake Lucerne in Swirzerland! It turned into a giant Haribo in the near 40 degree heat and turned to jelly, but bizarrely moulded back into shape with minimal damage after being parked under a tree and several of us manipulating it back into shape! I use plasticised paint so it flexes well.
Another friend had just sent his "Race Weight" fury chassis off to have the rear rebuilt and reinforced with stronger steel as it has twice snapped on our various Alps tours to Monte Carlo. Doesn't seem to like getting air, can't be having that in future can we :-)

Lee whats the metal used in the chassis? Its it mild steel or chormoly? My chassis is made from a mix of egg whites, flour and water. Or maybe very thin c1.2mm mild steel.
Like previously mentioned I have the 'race' chassis and have had to buld in extra supports and triangulation after ripping the rear suspension mount out of the chassis.
I'm running a 2ltr zetec, caged etc and the last weigh in was 492kg without 1 fat boy on board!

Lee, you are just another in a list of owners who have had problems with "lightweight" chassis being used hard. If I were to build another, considering the extreme use we give them, I would be very wary of ticking the lightweight box on the order form, chassis or body. The OP I feel should not be too worried about the weight if he has that sort of power to push him round. If it's not breaking chassis then I'd be quite happy!
My own Phoenix ripped it's diff out weeks after completion 8 years ago, and immediately had lots of gusseting all around the rear end and uprated driveshafts fitted. No problems since.
The R1 bike engined cars even snap the Sierra driveshafts easily, even with "no torque"! Jim G has snapped 2 in 2 years on his Fury R1 despite them easily handling 1.5 tonnes of Sierra in a previous life.. Mine are beefed up Sierra 4x4 items and have not been a problem
since.
I would not really contemplate a lightweight race chassis for road use after the experiences we have had, and sods law they tend to break in as inconvenient places as possible, like rural Italy or on the Col du Turini!!

I also had the same problem with the diff almost ripping out of the chassis after my first ever sprint.
saying that I've also heard similar issues with race weight westfiled chassis (suspension bracket parting from the chassis)
And similar to yourdelf I mamaged to snap a 1/2 shaft. I was amazed how cleanly it snapped. Couldnt have made a cleaner cut with a hacksaw.

I've killed a halfshaft with an R1 Fury also - but the reason was clear on inspection: a poor choice of machining a notch to seat the inboard end of the boot covering the outer CV joint.
Much better to let this float on the halfshaft and not risk a minor diameter to seat it. The replacements, without, have been fine to date (5k miles).

I am thinking of having a look at how the weight on my car is made up, now being a good time to start as the back axil is of the car, so I can start with that,, the engine will be out over the next few months so I can weight that and the gear box then.
So does any one know, what is the weight of a std Phoenix Chassie? What is the weight of a std Phoenix Body? and what is the weight od a std Phoenix Fron Clam shell?
