This was predictable...

Any V12s that aren't going to be ruinous?

This has to be one of the cheapest, but if all 12 cylinders are still firing it's a miracle...

Benz S600 or the BMW 750i are the two obvious ones. I fancy a 750i...

The problem with these is not so much the reliability, but when they go wrong, they are more complicated than the mystreys of the universe.

I've never fancied a V12 as I've never much seen the point of the complication of an extra 4 cylinders.

The great thing about BL cars is they let you rebuild the car properly yourself at your own pace. wink

I would have thought a 6.0 XJ12 like this would be the best for that.

I was rather tempted by one of these (or the older 6.0 model) when I was barge shopping but went for a Mercedes V8 instead.

Ahh OK, that's reassuring, I mean, after 26 years, what could possibly go wrong? hehe

Or is it now that everything's been replaced that will fail, so the PHer should feel confident in the old wafter...?

Dont think I could buy a car based solely on the number of cylinders.

But

750i, XJS, Double Six and thats about it at the bargain end of things.

I've got a Daimler double6 but haven't got round to a) minting it to get on the road or b) telling the wife I have it.

I'm sure H.E. actually means that the engine is very efficient with the way it drains the tank of every last drop of fuel.

I think the HE stands for high energy or similar & relates to the electronic ignition module in the distributor.

It is genuinely high efficiency! Maybe should be RHE? "RELATIVELY high efficiency when compared to a petrol engined American lorry"

How many of them have you actually bought? Maybe find something that you don't like, show her saying "I've always wanted one of those, but I'll treat you instead." Result is, she doesn't think you are always going to buy a car if you see one you like, but in reality, you still can. Maybe try this every other car. So for example, buy this, then later show her a picture of an Austin Metro.
