A good freind has advised me to add a small amount of two stroke motor bike oil (JASO-WB/WC spec) to a tank full of diesel.
He has done this on his Land Rover Disco 3 and it has made the world of difference.

Is this a proven technique? Does this have downsides?

I am wondering if i should use this in my VW Touran which sounds like two skeletons bonking in a biscuit tin and Audi A4.

Fixed that for you. Sub clauses are underrated things.

We put a dab of 2-stroke in our Massey, but that's just to protect the 1960's injection pump from the ultra low sulphur diesel. Sulphur used to lubricate those pumps, so a wee bit of 2-stroke to replace that seems to help.

Yep the older the diesel engine the better the result, i wouldn't bother on a modern but i use 2 stroke on every fill on my 80's TD. (50 to 1)
The older transit Di (pre banana) loves the stuff, mind you they are like the noisyest diesel ever laugh

Rather than pissing about with 2 stroke oil - try changing what engine oil you use - bet your touran runs on that appalling long life castrol crap
