Bit of a niggle with my new Viera Plasma. When watching freeview 'ec/hdmi' flashes up on the screen and the picture goes off simultaneously?Happens maybe twice a night.About 6 seconds later picture comes back on the screen. It 'seems' like a Freeview signal problem but never had this problems in the two years my 42 inch LG tv lasted.

I don't have the answer but I do have a very similar problem with a Viera Plasma telly, albeit a couple of years old. It's as if the TV can't detect the aspect ratio or format and keeps constantly switching. At first I put it down to the new Virgin Tivo box as I had SKY previously and I have no issues using an Xbox or PC as source. Then I noticed it once or twice via BR. So now I am thinking that it's an issue with the receiver as everything goes through that. But as I say no issue via the Xbox source. Sound is unaffected. Unfortunately, I can't recreate it at will, so it's difficult to recreate and test variables. Definitely most prevalent via TV (Virgin).

Wondering whether it's an HDMI cable at fault? Some days it will be fine, others it will happen regularly. Bit stumped by it to be honest.

Sounds like you have an Onkyo amp, they seem to have no end of issues with HDMI handshaking.

Denon 2310 actually. Very occasional handshake issue with Xbox but that's a documented MS issue. Suspect receiver maybe issue but can't replicate to test. Will try tomorrow bypassing amp and see if it occurs.

Is the freeview tuner inside the TV?
What else is connected to the TV.

Bit of a long shot but did anybody get to the bottom of this problem ? My Panasonic Plasma does this every night at the same time, it's as if its on a timer or something. You can watch TV all day then at 9.55.pm every might picture & sound go off to be replaced by black screen with EC/HDMI in top left corner. Any ideas how to stop this ?
