riviera blue spyder!
Discussion
My first post on PistonHeads. The 'Rivera Blue' Spyder shown in the photos was photographed by its first owner back in August/September of 2011 at his home town in Oregon. Not exactly the same as California, weather wise., since it rains there as much as in England! Since that photo was taken, the original owner sold the car, first to someone in Texas, then to to young racer Graham Rahal (son of Bobby) in Indiana and finally to another gent in Pennsylvania! That is quite a journey for one Spyder in less than one year - probably travelled more miles on auto carrier than on the road so far!
There were only three Paint-to-Sample Spyders imported to the US in MY2012 and one in MY2011. The '11 was ordered by PCNA in 'Meteor Grey' for the 2011 Detroit Auto Show before they allowed any customer to order PTS. This Spyder was then made part of the test-drive fleet at various Porsche events in the US and used all over. I test drove it at a customer event in San Francisco in May of 2011. After much anticipation about the possibility of ordering PTS, we in the US market finally got a very limited window of about one week in March of 2011 in which to order PTS! That deadline came & went very fast with only 3 cars getting approval and many rejected.
The 'Riviera Blue'/Black was ordered on spec by Walter's in Riverside, CA. That is where the original owner from Oregon got it. The other two MY2012 PTS Spyders were an 'Azure Blue'/Carrera Red and a 'Speed Yellow'/Black. The 'Azure' was ordered by a Virginia dealer also on spec and ended up purchased by someone in Oregon. The SY car is pictured in this thread (although colors seem washed out in that photo) and resides still with its original owner in Texas. The SY car is the only PTS ordered by & delivered to an actual US customer. The MY2011 'Meteor Grey'/Carrera Red was sold by PCNA last fall (2011) after it was decommissioned from the test car fleet and perhaps sold again earlier this year. It is the only PDK of the four and it was 'well used' at all of the customer events.
I read in another post here in PistonHeads that you have information that only 1883 Spyders were built for all markets by Porsche in both MY2011 and MY2012. Where did you guys obtained that number and is it officially confirmed by Porsche UK? Here in the US, we believe we got around 750 MY2011 Spyders and anywhere from 125 to 141 MY2012 Spyders. PCNA will not confirmed the official numbers claiming 'proprietary' information. I have one of the last MY2012 US Spyders built in July of 2011 - Vin #....5187. It is 'Aqua Blue Metallic'/Carrera Red which I custom-ordered. Not another in that color combination in the US but at least one other MY2011 in that color scheme in continental Europe. Last known MY2012 Spyder in US has VIN #....5202.
I have a few questions for you on PistonHeads on these subject:
A) Did 'Porsche UK' allow anyone in Britain to order PTS Spyder in MY2012? Do any of you know any PTS Spyder done by PAG for any other market in Europe?
We have seen a MY2011 Spyder from Holland done in Grey Black (the .2 gt3 RS color) but we don't know if that is factory paint or a redo!
B) Do you have another Aqua Blue Metallic/Carrera Red Spyder in your market?

Clashes with the stripes on the floor....
And the wheels are too dark - need to be more anthracite to carry the riviera.
This was/is owned by the chap who set up the Dspyda website - now sadly closed for some reason.
there is another Spyder website coming I have been told at http://www.clubspyder.co.ukAnd the wheels are too dark - need to be more anthracite to carry the riviera.

I see Phooey you miss yours :-)
In truth i don't think i really do miss it. I thought i was going too, but then i also thought Summer wouldn't be as sh!te as it is! I've always banged on about the roof not being difficult to work, and it isn't, but i don't miss checking the weather forecast in the morning thinking.... "should i leave it on, or take it off? I know, i'll take the other car
"Porsche did a brilliant job with the Spyder - Styling and performance. But it just doesn't work in this country, for me. Hate to say it, but i think it would of been more missed if it of had an electric roof

I recommend the Spyder, but doubt i'd have another IYNWIM

that's why I don't get full fat Spyders, the only thing making the spyder is the light weight, add options and the weight back in, you are 100% better off with a Boxster which is more usable.
Yes summers been crap, not driven mine much at all, which is a great shame, it's a true 2nd car like a Lotus or a Caterham and when you look at the car as a 2nd car it's fantastic in stripped out form and you get the best from it.
went to Tipec show which was a stunning day and drive out, and Ashby Folville was a nice night this month.
The less you use it, the more you look forward to using it ;-)
I have still never put the roof on or even taken it with me :-) which must be a record in Spyder ownership lol
