Tyre damage insurance
Discussion
The 4 year old Audi A6 I bought 2 years ago was fitted with Barum Bravuris tyres, two of which were well worn. I was obliged to replace them a few months later, and whilst perhaps not ones first choice of tyre, they seemed OK to put on a cruising barge. Even so, in 255 x 19 x 35 guise, and some haggling they were £150 each at a national tyre chain. Knowing how easily one could ruin such tyres on a relatively minor pothole, I paid for accidental damage insurance.
Fast forward 18months and one of the tyres has a ruinous puncture that cannot be repaired. There is 4.5mm of tread still left on it, so according to the insurance blurb, I'm entitled to a 35% discount on the price of a replacement. Off I trot to the aforementioned tyre emporium
expecting to have to pay circa £100 for a new tyre.
"That will be £168 sir."
WTF !
Apparently, my 35% tyre discount entitlement is only off their 'Advertised retail price' of £240, which no-one ever pays, and not off any real price.
The tyre monkeys advice - Go home and order and pay for one online at tyreshopper.co.uk. Come back here with your receipt for £132 and I'll take one off the shelf here and fit it for you.
Now I know after sales product insurance is generally a money making scam, and I am old enough to know better, but did the
s really have to rub my f
king nose in it?

The fact that they took the premium to start with, then it turns out to be worth less than nothing...

that sold me £15 worth of useless insurance, then have me waste half a morning pissing about with receipts and driving hither and thither at his behest, when he could have easily sorted this out with a few keystrokes. Helpful my arsedavepoth said:

the tyre will be replaced with a new tyre at the prevailing price minus an allowance based on the tread depth remaining on the damaged tyre.
My bold. I'm struggling to find an irrefutable definition but this one seems reasonable

It's crystal clear. Small print always isEdited by sparkythecat on Saturday 23 June 17:56
Insurance is worthless shocker (not a go at the OP by the way).
It's why I always decline every and all offers of warrenty / insurance / paint protection / damage etc on any goods I buy. They're all worth s
t. The money you save in your lifetime by not buying these, pays for the rare occasion when you would potentially find them (if they paid out, which they don't) useful.
Any insurance I do need I buy independently (eg life insurance - don't buy it off the mortgage advisor etc)
