Hi. I recently had 2 new rear tyres on my car. Since then in order to go in a straight line my steering wheel has had to sit slightly off centre. Is there any obvious reason this could be? Is it an easy fix? I've not had chance to go back to the garage. Thanks

I'm going to take a guess and say you need to steer the the right a little?

Tyre pressures would be the first port of call.

Yep. Whats the reason? Have checked tyre pressures.

did you have the tracking done? it may be that the tyres were worn unevenly beforehand and now that they have the same depth of tread its pulling to one side slightly. get the tracking done and the bushes and wheel bearings etc checked.

80-90% of the time when people mention pulling to one side, it is always to the left, which is following the camber of the road.

Some of that can come from the tyre design, I think symmetric/non symmetrical patterns play a part but I forget which way round they went.

It was fine before the new tyres.

A decent 4-wheel laser alignment will sort the problem.

It maybe that misalignment has worn the tyres a particular way - now you have new tyres it has altered the setup.

Get 4 wheel alignment checked. One of the rear wheels was quite a bit out of alignment on my car, had it adjusted, wheel straightened up and the handling improved drastically. Cost £60 all in.

Possibly a conicity issue with the tyres. Swap the tyres around - steering correction should be the other way. If that is the case you can dismount one tyre, turn it around and even things out.
