Our first mutt smile Had him three days and he's already learned to sit, wait and go in the garden too. And best of all, aside from a first night where he was petrified, he's slept (or been silent) in his pen from 10 until 6am when I feed him and take him out. Bloody brilliant chap! smile

he's cute, but in my world, cute dogs mean TROUBLE. If he can b taught to sit/stay & go outside at that age, then you've got one highly intelligent dog. And highly intelligent dog ,means LOTS of interaction, otherwise that shoe is going to get Labrodised, big time. Just be aware that clever dogs need to have the brain occupied a lot. And big clever dogs need lots of exercise & mental stimulation .
Lovely dog.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. Yes he is a good lad so far with a few lab traits thrown in. He's good at night and aside from the first night which had him distressed as I mentioned he's been very good - no wetting his bed. Last night he did throw a bit of a paddy before bed but I think that was down to us letting him sleep on the sofa so he likely expected that at night and wanted to be around us. No bad thing but I won't be allowing that for a while now, just to get him into the swing of things.

He does need challenging, that's a given. No doubt he is very smart but his excitement does get the better of him some times. Any ideas on how to instantly make them [Mexican ON] calm and submissive [Mexican OFF] when I want him to concentrate? He seems to be distracted by the grass and seems to love something just below the lawn surface. Crazy digging then a bit of gnawing. Looks like some fluffy heather-like stuff. He's going through a bit of grass with each trip into the garden but he's poohing fine and the constancy is good. He does appear to love stones but I've fenced off the lawn with some stuff from Poundland, of all places, so that's put a bit more focus on him when I want him. Actually, do you guys have any recommendations for stopping his fixation with stones? I'm worried about him going out for walks later on next month and picking up things. Stones are my biggest worry so far.

Once the weather is better i'm going to focus on sitting and staying. He's getting this already pretty well but I want him to be much more regimented. Monday is jabs and chips (can't decide between Revo, Bluefin or a custom map smile) so at least we'll be able to take him out for walks soon.

all good so far I would say.
Once he is getting out and about, seeing, smelling and doing things that should or will become plenty to firearm give him stimulation.

we are not ones for dogs on furniture, nor upstairs, but each to their own. Just give a thought for when in later life he WILL be permanently muddy I the winter -sofa, ruined.
Big leather soda ordered last month so I think you've just given me the right solution smile

He won't be allowed upstairs. Took me over a week to sand and paint the stairs!

Cheers,

David
