Help,I've lost my tax disc. The holder has been dropping off the windscreen for the last couple of days and now the thing is missing.I've been upside down in the footwell, but alas it's no longer in the car.
I downloaded a dvla form to apply for a replacement(V20).
Can I still drive the car?
Should I put a note on the windscreen?
Or use a Guiness label?

One of the problems of running around with no Licence displayed is that it attracts attention not only from BiB but their clones. As regards being reported for not having one then no action will be taken by DVLA as the vehicle is licensed and their records will show this. But there is also the offence of failing to display a Licence upon which DVLA have no say .
In your case you may consider putting a note in the windscreen "Lost Licence - Replacement applied for - exempt display Reg 6 RV (Reg and Lic) Regs 2002"
This Reg exempts display whilst an old Licence has been returned for replacement and I would quote that Reg in any dealings re fail to display if stopped whilst new Licence is issued and displayed.
Now a word of warning and an Insurance policy on your part. Trot down to local BiB station and report that the Licence has been lost and ask them to record as Lost Property.Get a name as to who takes the report. Why this is fairly important is the fact that there is a serious offence with 2 yr imp of fraudulently lending an Excise Licence to be used by someone else. (S44 Veh Excise & Reg Act 1994). Now if Joe Scroat came across your Licence and used it on his or his mates vehicle and they were stopped they to commit the serious offence of fraudulent use of an Excise Licence. So BiB, following the chain, would be along to interview you as to how it came to be in the possession of J.S. The Insurance policy above will come into play and save a lot of hassle.
